11. Betrayal

Aidens POV: Swimming with Kat's friends turned out to be fun. I had to link Xaiver to not go after her friend for breaking their moment laying in the grass. Kat wasn't ready for that and if anyone knew that it would be the friends she came here with. The next day we had a carcas show up at our borders with a death threat directed at Xaivier. We kept quiet with our Mates keeping it between Xaivier and myself. Of course the warrior's had to know but they too kept quiet to prevent mass panic in the pack. "We are keeping tight security at the boarders. Any suspicious activity will be reported." I said as I sat in the chair opposite Xaiver, the desk between us. Xaivier grunted in response. He had been working with the maps Kat left here. I could tell he struggled to figure them out. "Don't you think we should get Kat to help?" I offered gently for the umpteenth time over the past few days. He gave me a hard look and I held my hands out in surrender. "I'm just saying. She is a Sigma and she has obviously been doing this a long time." I tried to sway him and as usual he began to explain why not. "She no longer needs to do that Aiden, it is our job to protect her." I couldn't keep letting him waste time like this. He is my Alpha but he is also like a brother to me. Sometimes that meant being the 'bad guy'. "You can't keep wasting time Xaiver. Maybe trusting her with this is the right thing to do." He gave me an expression that said 'You're an i***t'. I gave a huff. "Obviously she is. there are charts here that you don't understand. I know how extensive your training is. She does things differently than any way you are trained."I paused letting it soak in. "She's in her comfort zone when talking about this stuff." "So what am I supposed to do? Step down and submit to the girl?" he snapped. He's right about that. He'd never submit to her. "No. Just let her be a Sigma. Take a step back tell her what you need and let her do it her way." Xaivier rested his elbows on the desk temples between his fingers. "I'll think on it." Xaivier mumbled. "Please do... see reason and do yourself a favor. Stop avoiding her." I decided to let the topic drop. It got late and I made Xaivier take a rest and come home to eat together as a family. Something was missing around the table though and I knew the leathal wommen that sat alone in a room of the packhouse could fill that spot. She had this way of bringing everything to life in a whimsical way that our all too seirious group needed. We would get up. We would eat, work, have s*x, and sleep. I began wondering if it would always be this way, until she came along. 'Xaivier better stop ignoring her or ill take my claim.' my Wolf said breaking my thoughts as I lay in bed. 'I like they way she looked at me when we first saw eachother.' my Wolf agreed with me and I let darkness take over as I snuggled in with Rose for the night. Katerina's POV: We rough housed and swam until the sun went down. My group of mates did their best to stay out of the way and observed how we interacted with eachother. After that things got quiet. Days went by and I only saw them by happenstance. I saw Josh and Amber only in a couple and each time Amber would try and take a stab at me with insults and sarcasm. Josh would say nothing as he was lower ranking than the she wolf, so he thought. Rose would only come in looking for Aiden and Xaivier who both spent most of their time outside and wholed up in the office. I knew something was going on but there were warriors everywhere staying close to the Alpha, preventing me from eavesdropping. I stayed inside hoping that if something went down I was right there ready to be by the Alphas side. It was quite uncharacteristic of me and I would never admit to anyone about my true intentions of staying couped up inside. Defending someone so willingly, especially an Alpha wasn't something I did and alot of people knew that as a rogue. A knock on the door interrupted my ponderings. When I opened it Josh stood there looking like he didn't want to be. "Uh. Hi... The Alpha requested your presence in his office." he stammered a bit. I scrunched my eyebrows. "Why?" "He didn't say. I'm just following orders." of course he was. I knoded and walked past him closing my door behind me. When I got to the office door I knocked. "Come in." Xaivier's soothing deep voice came from inside. I went in and saw him sat behind his desk working on papers. "I'm surprised." I said as I sat in the chair opposite his desk. "And what is it you're surprised about?" he asked not looking up from his work. "Surprised to see you alone." He grinned at my replay. "Well I'm not alone anymore." "That's true..." I paused. "What did you want me for?" I asked cutting straight to the point. He put down his pen and closed the file he was working on. He ten pulled out a much larger pile and I immediately recognized them as my maps. I gave him a confused look. He had zero interest in letting me help when I gave them to him. "Relationships, mate or not, require trust." He stood up his peircing gaze locked on me. "I realize trust may be difficult for you." Is he... angry with me? "Trust is certainly difficult for me. In the time you have been here attacks have increased and a carcas showed up with a death threat directed at me." my jaw almost dropped open but I held my composure. He is blaming me. I held eye contact with him keeping my emotions out of my expression, as he walked around the desk. He continued, his eyes looked dangerous, "You might be able to fool the others but you cant fool me. You seem to know an awful lot about this location and many others, not even myself know of. I'm watching you. I won't let your plan come to fruition." he lent in close and I didn't move. I felt betrayed at that moment by the moon goddess. After everything else she put me through now this? It hurt. If his mind is truly set on me being the enemy and he waited for everyone to be out of earshot. I dont have much a chance even if I did tell the truth. My own mate thought me a lire. A traitor. He thought I wanted him dead for the throne. "Even if you were not doing this, you would never be Luna Queen. Josh has the position as Luna King already set." He said this as he went back around his desk. My head is still reeling from his sudden betrayal. I didn't even see it coming. He lied to me. To them... It hurt. I felt tears prickel at my eyes and I had to get out. I stood abruptly interrupting whatever else he was about to say about the maps. "You're no better than thoes 'Alphas' that take women and men by force. You accuse me of... this." I didn't even know what to say no come back would work and the tears were coming quickly my chest felt like I had inhaled gasoline. I wanted to say so much yet none of it made sense. I turned and walked out the office as fast as I could. I went outside and I ran. I ran so fast and so hard as I let my emotions out my Wolf whined to come out and I let her this time. I shifted as I ran not slowing down but speeding up. I came to the border and they waited for me, blocking my path out. There were too many and I stopped my Wolf wich was easier than usual due to the turn of events. I heard a low growel behind me and my Wolf whipped around. A wolf just larger than mine, onix in color compared to my redish black wolf. My Wolf, for the first time since we mett, looked to the ground exposing her neck. He came closer and with each step she got lower to the ground. 'Come on Sage have a backbone.' I scolded her. 'He is my Alpha. I can't.' she continued to cower and even went belly up. Xaivier shifted. He put his hand on her belly and she stayed still waiting on his command. "Shift." With that one word for the first time someone else controlled my shift. I didn't want to be near him and tears came again making me angry. I kept my eyes down my hair over my face hiding my tears best I could from him. "Come back to your room." he spoke as if nothing had just happened. I followed him up to the pack house left naked for all to see. Tears streaming down my face. "What the hell is going on?" I heard Aiden say from the kitchen. "Just alittle shifting problem. We worked it out." Xaiver answered like nothing had conspired and ot angered me. I snapped my head towards him and he must have saw because this time he mett my out of control tearfilled eyes. Just then Even came down the stairs. I watched him out of the corner of my eye. Even was quick to move in front of me covering my body. Xaivier had the audacity to snarl at him for protecting me. "I don't know what's going on and I don't care who you are, but no one humiliates Kat around me." Xaivier let out a laugh that now sounded sick to me. A warrior had given him a robe as soon as he shifted outside. "Let's just all calm down." Aiden said. "Xaivier we need to talk. Kat go get some cloths on and, Evan is it? Go help your friend calm down." Oddly enough Xaivier went with Aiden and Evan lead me upstairs to my room. I got dressed and stared to tell Evan everything that happened. Soon enough Vera and Minnie came in too. We talked until the sun went down and I finally lay down after they left. Just as I dozed off howels rang out coming from the entire perimeter of the pack, snapping me awake. It was a battle call.
