OUTCOME OF GOODBYES

929 Words
There are so many people in the hotel. It was a glamorous night to enjoy the party. Everyone is all dressed in their evening gowns and ready to rock and slay the night. Beige wears a stunning dress. She looks fabulous and more gorgeous than ever. It’s almost a year since she decided to leave and it’s also almost a year since she didn’t communicate with him. There was never a time that they reached out and talked to each other after she left. She was curious at times, but her success now in her job is immeasurable. She forgets that somehow in another part of this world there’s this man whom she promises that she will be back for him. She erases that thought immediately. She loves him but she thinks that it can wait. That night, there were so many good-looking men trying to attract her attention. But no one ever did. She went outside to watch the stars that night. She shed a tear remembering him and all those good, happy and beautiful memories they both had. She was whispering in the air, “I’m sorry, Jim, for not keeping my promise. I love you, wholeheartedly. I hope wherever you are right now, you will not hold so much anger at me. I wish you well. I’m sorry for causing you too much pain. I will write many beautiful poems and essays about you. You affect me and my life. I will touch other people’s lives just how much you touch mine. I will be more successful; I will be great Jim. I love you, my love.” Jim, on the other hand, felt so betrayed by the woman that he offered his genuine and pure love. He can’t accept that she didn’t bother to talk to her all the months that had already passed by. He refused to believe the beliefs of other people in their neighborhood, saying to him that she had forgotten him already, that she would not be back, that she was already happy in her life now. For a time, he felt so lost. Each and every day, he listens to Celeste's famous song, “Stranger”. Isn’t it strange? I am still me; you are still you in the same place. Isn’t it strange how people can change from strangers to friends, friends into lovers and strangers again? The lyrics of the song always hit him so hard. There was never a day that he didn’t listen to this song. He was destroyed. He wants the pain to stop but he doesn’t know how. He waited for her but she never showed up. He loves her so much. Throughout his whole life he was used to living alone and for a time he didn’t feel the pain of it, but when Beige leaves him, she left a big scar on his heart that it was not easy for him to let go of her. A year had passed, and Beige didn’t come back. He continued living his life as he should. Sometimes, his mother visits him to remind him that his life isn’t over yet, just because Beige left her. Her mother told him not to judge Beige right away. Maybe there’s a reason why she hasn’t come back now, she said. She pushes her son to work again, to take it easy and to move forward. He was never really okay, but life would not stop for him. That’s why he continues living with the help of his friends, workmates and his mother. For a year, he had not been seen smiling. But slowly by slowly, he was able to get back to his former self. Later on, he was promoted to be the new restaurant manager at his workplace. He had already accepted the fact that it was over for the two of them. He forgives her like what her late mother always said to him. His mother died in her sleep. She was not able to witness the triumph of her son, but she was happy in heaven now seeing her son in his full potential again. One day, Jim was walking on the seashore and he was thankful to be alive. It was his birthday; he remembered Beige again. He just whispers in the air how much he misses her; how much he wants to share with her that he also makes his dream into reality. Beige remembers him that day, she longs for him. They both long for each other, but it seems that destiny won’t allow them to be together. That night, Beige suddenly took a flight and tried to take her shot, hoping she would see him on his birthday, but she was too frightened to face him. She sobs heavily when she reaches the bus stop. It was the place that brought them together. She stood there for a while hoping to see a glance of him, but no one came. She rides the bus going back to the airport. She was sitting in her favorite spot near the window when Jim passed by her. He is also going to the bus stop. They were both there but didn’t get the chance to have a glimpse of each other. They were both there but didn’t get the chance to talk about what happened to them and their relationship. They were both there but didn’t get a chance to hold and wrap each other’s arms again. On that very night, he officially bids goodbye to all the memories but most especially, her.
