Chapter 7: Dahnya's Wednesday

“Bye, dad!” Mmmm, breakfast was yum! I see my bus from afar, and quickly yet safely cross the street. The middle-aged driver pulls up and opens the doors for me. “Good morning, Dahnya”. I smile at Dan, “and a good morning to you too.” I plop down next to Avery, and she gives me a sleepy wave. She rests her head on my shoulder and we travel to school in silence. I don’t bug her, I know she worked last night and she usually doesn’t get home until 11 pm. Our bus comes to a halt in front of our school, and I pull Avery to a standing position. “Come on, girl. We better hurry or those peeps in the back will trample us.” I wave to Dan and wish him a good day. It was bitterly cold again last night, and the sidewalks have all been salted. I tread carefully and hold tightly onto Avery’s elbow. Ah,
