Chapter 19 – My Mate

Saying no more with Madison so close by, just waking up was a huge step for her. The last thing any of her family wanted was to overwhelm her completely. To risk frightening or angering her into leaving again, especially so soon after she jus arrived. Maybe they had not seen it yet, but they all knew Madison could have quite a temper when she wanted. She frequently used to make rash decisions, just like her choice to leave and cut ties pretty well overnight. One decision leading to her being missing for over half a decade thought to be dead. The last thing they wanted to do was stir her into a state where she could once again break ties and walk out. Just another reason for Byron’s presence, he could always seem to calm her, and he would always protect her. He was practically family, and now a trusted pack member in a leadership role who had earnt his place.

Having heard every word. Madison remembered talk of a warehouse when she had first been taken to one of the houses. She remembered being walked out to the van, but that all stopped as soon as she hit the foyer. The first day Malcom laid his eyes on her. He took and broke her in destroying her innocence without a second thought. After that…

Madison could not stop the flood of memories, it was almost like a tap, scenes overlaying her vision. Slipping into the bathroom, Madison lightly shoved Byron out the threshold resting her head on the wood door shutting him out. His reassuring voice penetrating the door, “well… I’ll be right here if you need me.” Images flowing in one by one even closing her eyes did not help, the projections just continued playing in her mind.

Not responding to Byron, he was quickly forgotten as Madison turned staggering toward the shower shakily. Turning the knobs, she managed to adjust the water before sinking to her knees on the hard tiles. The coldness under her palms, Madison pulled back her hands reaching for her head. A male appearing in front of her, she almost jumped up in surprise. Not recognising the man, she did not feel fear in his presence, she felt oddly calm. His black shiny hair dripping wet, he did not even flinch as the droplets ran around his green eyes and down his well chiselled face.

The familiarity and sudden curiosity forcing her forward to get a better look. Madison reached out her hand instinctively, but just as quickly as he appeared, he disappeared into thin air. Whipping her head around, the man was completely gone, her heart racing, Madison felt a hole sinking in her chest, the sensation utterly heart throbbing.

Pulling roughly at her hospital gown, Madison heart palpitated as the bad memories once again started to take hold filling her head. Fabric tearing under her fingers, every menacing face she encountered over the past few years ran through her vision blinding her completely. The water trailing down her skin, Madison somehow sunk lower falling to her ass and giving up on the wet gown. Partially torn and clinging to her body, it served no real purpose. “Mads…? Are you okay in there?” Byron voice hesitantly ringing in her ears, Madison could not even open her mouth to speak.

Her arm moving of its own accord, Madison reached up blindly turning off the hot water completely. Cold water cascading down onto her body, this was all too familiar. A shiver racking through her a voice resounded in her ears as her eyes squeezed closed. “Shhhh you’re safe. Everything is going to be okay. I’m here Madi, I’m right here.” Her heart swelling, heat enveloped her body as the voice was physically affecting her body. Eyes shooting open, Madison looked around the bathroom wildly for the person belonging to the voice. Finding nobody there, her eyes dropped back to the tiled floor in fustration.

A body appearing before her, warm thick arms wrapped around her. Holding her in place, Madison’s eyes rose to meet the face before her. The emerald eyes staring back at her, who was this man? She could not remember him, but he felt so familiar. Her mind suddenly filling with a memory and not a bad one, the man lifted her into his arms. His body pressing against hers, it felt good, left her craving more. Madison’s finger rising to her lips, a sensation encompassed her body, they had kissed. Byron’s voice sounding again, concern laced his every syllable as she came crashing back to reality literally. Having stood at some point, Madison slipped on the smooth wet tiles crashing back down to the floor.

Arms wrapping around her knees, Madison pictured his face in shadow before for. His arms out reached toward her, a hushing sound washed reassuringly through her ears. “Shhhh you’re safe. I’m here Madi, I’m right here.” His voice instantly calming her heart, Madison continued staring at him before her. Her arms itching like crazy, Madison extended out an arm in the air to meet his. Touching nothing, his image vanished once more as her chest constricted harshly.

“Mads I heard something, Mads! I’m coming in!” Byron opening the door forcefully, his voice continued to sound in concern. “Mads…?” Byron’s large body rushing forward, Madison was lifted into his arms from the tiles and placed on the vanity as he looked her over. Her little arms gripping him tightly, Byron reached behind himself gripping a towel and securing it around her.

“Byron… I… I think I found my mate… but… I can’t remember. I… I think he… rejected me.” Madison’s voice breaking, her chest thundered as Byron wrapped his arms around her tighter. “Byron… I can’t remember…” Pain ripping through the both of them, Byron did not even know what to think as he held her ever so close. For someone to cause Madison so much pain, he wanted to destroy them. To rip them apart, how could anyone reject the girl he had fantasied being mates with for over half his life.
