Ben, Lizzie, and the director watched and listened as Nathan and Jamesin verbally sparred.
"That guy's good - but Nathan's better," Ben whispered as Nathan tripped Jamesin up in a contradiction that had the older man backtracking in his statements.
Lizzie and the director grinned at Ben's remark.
"So then why do it at all?" they heard Nathan ask. "Why risk exposure? You escaped custody, and you've successfully hidden all these years-"
"Because being intentionally 'lesser than' had gotten old, Agent Thomas," they heard Jamesin explain in a tone that weary adults use to answer the tiresome questions of children. "And because I could, quite frankly. Why else?"
A few moments later Jamesin's offhand comments turned the tide of the conversation, and it caught all three observers completely
