Chapter 5: Finding Rose

1027 Words
Matt I hate patrolling the southern border it holds too many awful memories.  Years ago, this was my favorite part of the territory.  As a kid I use to frequent the outskirts of the boundary to play in the water, and pretend to patrol like my father.  My brothers and I loved to follow our dad to the border and patrol during his day shifts with him on the weekends. When he would finish patrol duty for the day, he would take us to the stream to cool down. We would splash and rough house in the water until it was time to go home for dinner.  Muddy and wet mom would always scream at us to rinse off again in the hose out back. Every time she would call out to us “Clean up, it’s not like you’re a pack of wild animals”, that still makes me chuckle. I wish this area still held those happy memories, but now it only feels lonely, and makes my chest ache with loss.  I catch my thoughts wandering to that horrible night when I catch the scent of an unfamiliar wolf. Its unique and hypnotic, salty like the ocean mixed with the smell of wood and leather. A second scent lingers in the area one of death but also the crispness of autumn, I turn to place the second scent, when the she-wolf in emitting that intoxicating scents breaches the border lines. I watched as her gold wolf sprinted past the border.  Her muscles moved perfectly in sink, as her fur sparkled in the movement. Momentarily memorized, I was stunned by her speed and grace, but quickly shocked and alerted by her boldness in crossing the Crescent Moon territory with no regard.  I mind linked my brothers Sam and Luke that we have an unwanted visitor at the southern bordered 2 miles north of the stream. Luke quickly responds, always eager to be on my good side, “Be there in 2 minutes bro.” Sam crashes out of a set of bushes moments before Luke, and raises his head in the direction where the scent of the gold wolf has taken off to. “Smells like it’s a she-wolf, what would she be doing up here?” We take off in the direction she ran, and let them know to cut her off before she gets further in the territory.  Alpha Landon will not be happy that a wolf has disregarded the border, he will want to speak with her immediately. We surround her and she lowers herself submissively to the ground.  She looks terrified, her piercing green pools stare straight into my wolf’s deep charcoal eyes.  I can smell her fear, and sense she is going to take off at any second. My wolf, Arden, can sense it to. She belongs here, do not frighten her. Luke mind links me, “She looks scared, we should shift.” I slowly nod my head, and we shift back.  She continues to cower towards the ground, as Sam goes to grab us some basketball shorts and t-shirts. I turn around to grab shorts from my brother, and when I turn back, I see lust in the wolf’s eyes and smell it slightly tinge the air. In the most demanding tone, I tell the intriguing wolf to shift. Luke is looking at her very closely now and notices the same thing I do. “Matt, she doesn’t look like a rogue and… look she bears the mark of the crescent.” I lean in closer to look at her markings when she lets out a low growl. I ask again with less force this time for her to shift to her human form. She falls to the ground and wraps her arms around her body to cover her nudity.  I can’t help but to run my eyes over her body, her skin is tan like dark honey.  She is tone, and has curves in all the right places.  Her nails are painted a bright shade of orange that highlights the color of her skin. The fullness of her breast peaks right below her arm, as her long light brown hair falls in waves down her back.  Her eyes are squeezed tightly shut, her soft pink lips forming a perfect pout. The smell of her fear wafts in the air, but still, I cannot take my eyes off of her perfect form. I haven’t felt attracted to a woman in years, and my desire for this terrified girl confuses me but pleases my wolf. Sam tosses the girl a shirt and her eyes slam open at the contact of the fabric on her skin. We divert our eyes, though it takes every bit of will power from me, while she quickly dresses.  Even in the oversized shirt I can make out the outline of her pert breasts, the cold air teasing them to hardness.  Her muscular legs peak out as she fidgets, and I can’t help but think she is not only incredibly hot but extremely adorable.  My wolf lets out a huff, but doesn’t really seem to disagree. I mind link my brothers, “Do not tell the Alpha about the crescent moon mark, but we must bring her immediately to him for questioning.” Sam and Matt respond back at the same time, “It can’t be her.” I mind link the Alpha to let him know we have a wolf that has crossed the border, as anticipated he asks, we bring her to see him immediately. The silence remains for long enough, when I introduce myself. “Hi, I am Matt.” Her name is Lexi. She claims to go to the local University, and says she was just wondering the woods and running after turning and learning that she is a wolf. She has no pack, and claims to have thought she was human until tonight. I don’t sense that she is lying, and in my gut, I feel like I am walking in the Alpha’s long-lost daughter. What's worse is I know that I can’t be attracted to the Alpha’s unmated daughter.
