DAXTON
I'm starting to doubt my own reality, not seeing or knowing as much as I thought I should. What would anyone expect from a 6 year old though? I looked at things a lot differently compared to how I view anything now. I'm glad I had grown up to have the wits and persona that I do today, or else I wouldn't even be able to sit here and have this conversation without breaking down or needing to take a break. "What makes you think that? You really believe he would betray his own best friend?" I ask the King, and he takes a second before responding to me. "Listen son, the day that your mom and pops were killed, he should have been with them. He was supposed to go with them. That day, your mother and father weren't just going on a family walk, it was more than that." What does he mean they weren't going on a walk? They would have told me if they were going elsewhere, why else would they invite me to go with them if it was anything more? They would have told me, at least, that's the kind of hope I had back then. "My parents have never lied before, what makes that time any different? They just needed a break, mom said she wanted dad to spend a little more time with her and us, he was busy with pack duties for multiple hours a day, only being able to be with us for dinner and bed. Even that could have been few and far between, depending on how busy he was. "Your father told me what he was planning, and he was going to find out the truth of what I tried to tell him all along. Collin wouldn't believe hear say, he wanted to know for himself whether he was right or wrong about Allen." My father suspected something? Thats news to me, I have to get to the bottom of this, good or bad. "What was my father planning?" He faces the floor and takes a breath before continuing.. "The day your brother was born, someone had overheard Allen being sneaky in a room by himself, with someone on the other line of his cellular device. It wasn't known who he was talking to, and I'm still trying to figure that out. He wanted to take your brother for himself." Huh? Allen, take my brother? For what? That doesn't make sense at all. What would he need with a newborn baby? "A woman called your mother, and asked to meet. She said she had information to implicate him planning a kidnapping. This scared your mother. She wasn't even a day postpartum when this insinuation was made. This in turn made your father confront Allen, and he stormed off after hearing anything negative about himself from Collin. He didn't want to hear it. He feigned hurt as if your dad shouldn't have questioned him at all." I had no idea. I can only shake my head, wondering why I didn't notice any signs. I was training as a young 6 year old already, learning the basics of the Alpha position. One of my studies was how to recognize a potential betrayal, and still I had not came to any conclusion of the sort. I suppose I was new to all of this at that time, even though I had been studying with my nanny for quite awhile. "Let me get this straight. My dad told you he was suspicious of Allen? and that he was going to confront him?" the king shuddered, cold chills accentuating visibly on his arms. "That's right. He couldn't just blow it off any longer. Your father had his borders lined up with extra protection as there were sightings of vampires in the area the night before the tragedy happened. Something had been going on, and no one could have known the defenses besides someone close to your father. His warriors were always there, he knew it had nothing to do with any of them. A vampire had infiltrated the grounds, and tried to break into the packhouse. He was caught in the midst of it, but he got away. No one knew how he got in. Your father questioned everyone that had any knowledge on the pack defenses, and he came to the conclusion there was only 1 person it could've been." He iterated. "Allen. Allen was my father's most trusted, at least what I had known at the time. I can't believe it. He dealt with a s**t ton of the paperwork and meetings for my father, just as a beta should. My father seems to have given you that accomodation, and trusted you with his life." I say to King Sebastian. He was suddenly melancholic, like he was reliving this story as he's telling it to me. I can tell it's bothering him, the sadness in his features only lasted for a second before his face turned stoic. "Daxton, that day they were going for a walk, they were really going to meet the mystery woman who had called your mother, hoping the information she was offering was wrong. After your father confronted Allen, he asked him to come with him, to prove his innocence. Allen had refused though, making your father question if what he was doing was the right thing, although it turns out it was in the end. Allen didn't end up going. He stayed back to handle pack duties while your family went to find out for themselves. However, they never made it to their destination." Sebastian sighed before looking me in the eyes. "Daxton, I truly believe Allen set them up, and I don't believe for a second their demise had anything to do with 'Rogues'." He finished with hand quotation marks in the air. "This is what allen perpetrated so no one would think to look into it further. I don't think he counted on your father telling anyone what was going on, but he thought wrong. I know, and he's going to know that I know, soon enough." He says with his teeth clenching, anger pouring out of every last word of his sentence. I bang my fists on the desk, cracking it with the first hardy blow. "That motherfucker. He's going to wish he never thought to betray my father, or me. This son of a b***h thought he would really get away with this? Doesn't he realize we would find out one way or the other? I knew I should have trusted my instincts. That sack of s**t has been a different person since the first day we've arrived back here!" With tears coming down my eyes, I'm no longer just upset, I'm Irate. I want to go straight to this bastard an tear his eyeballs from his sockets, cut his tongue out so he can never tell another lie, and rip his heart from his chest slowly and painfully. Maybe then he will understand the burden and guilt I've been carrying all this time, while he has gone on with his life as if nothing ever f*****g happened. "I'm gonna kill him." I say flatly, gritting my teeth. But first, I have to have proof in order to justify what I'm going to do once I have the opportunity to get the correct information, in order to put my hands on him. "We have to find that woman!" I shout at the King, and he nods in my direction."Already have that covered, nephew. By the way, do you mind if I call you that?" He says with a smirk, and I smirk back. "I'm starting to understand why my father held you close. What do you have in mind, uncle?" I reply with a devious smile of my own. The king scoots his chair out behind him, and starts to stand up. "I was hoping you would say that. My Beta should be arriving here any minute with someone I'd like you to meet." He tells me, not taking his eyes away from me. The Queen sat quietly this whole time, not feeling the need to chime in, and letting her husband take the lead. I hear a knock at the door, and in comes the royal beta, Ashwin. Following behind him is what I would think of as a real life angel who had fallen from the skies above. She had this glowing aura around her, and I'm intrigued. "Daxton, I'd like you to meet my wonderful niece, Alarah." The king introduced, and I feel like I could faint at any moment, goddess this woman was beautiful. I'm speechless. The king notices my unease and takes the lead. "Alarah, thank you for coming on such short notice. We need your help." Sebastian says to the woman. I think I might have lost a drop of drool while staring into space in her direction. I think to myself, if only the Earth could open up and swallow me. "Thank you for calling me, Sebastian. Now, what can I do for you?" She says to her uncle, and her melodic voice sounds like the subtle play of a violin, enchanting to my ears. "Alarah, you remember my best friend right? Collin?" He asks her. "Yes, yes I do. Are you finally accepting my help after all these years, uncle? And who might this be?" She questions him, and it makes me wonder why he hadn't let the ball get rolling sooner. "Alarah, this is the son of Collin and Anna. I knew he would come back here one day, and I'm glad I took that bet." He laughed to the woman. "Im sorry, my king, but how can she be of help to us?" I ask, genuinely curious. "Well son, She has all the information to the woman we need, and she is our ticket to a meeting with the very woman who had called your mom that fateful day. The same woman they were supposed to meet before the unthinkable happened." I perk up at that sentence. "How soon can we get in touch?" I direct to the beautiful woman who just walked out of heaven into my office. She looked at me and smiled deviously, and right at that moment I could tell she had something up her sleeve.
