I am the last one to walk inside the house. On the drive home, Henry and Mom were guessing the mystery person who paid the bill. Belen and Angela tried to distract me on the way home, but my head was spinning. Dread was consuming me. I walked into the living room and noticed my sisters quietly sitting down in the formal living room no one ever uses. Henry has a worried look, and my mother looks livid. Then I see him.
My father is seated in the middle of our living room. Two muscular men are standing behind him. All three men are dressed in suits and look lethal. I take a double-take at one of Victor’s men and immediately recognize him.
“Congratulations, Noelle. I waited for you to finish your last classes. I know the importance of education. I hope you enjoyed your evening. N
