Chapter 9
POV: Johnathan
I left my father's office and headed towards the kitchen.
The party should be starting soon, so they'll be lots of good food.
As I was pissed. My father just dismissed me about my mate. Sure not everyone found theirs, but I was an alpha! Alpha's almost always find their mate! And yet I will married off to this…. This witch!
I was disgusted even thinking about it.
I hated that my mate could be younger than me and so we would be unable to find each other until she was of age. That's all the more reason to wait with this marriage!
I didn't know any she-wolf I was drawn to. Or even could really stand. They all wore too much perfume for one. Half the time I could hardly breathe in the presence of a she-wolf. They only cared about clothes and gossiping.
Mates were drawn together, even before they were of age. Just enjoying one another's company. Or wanting to be around each other. they couldn't truly feel the bond until both were 18 though.
I tried to be respectful of my future mate and never dating any of these she-wolves…. But a man has needs. And while they may be annoying they sure feel good…..
I got to the kitchen and grabbed a few appetizers on my way outside. I figured a quick walk of the grounds would do me some good before I had to meet the witch.
POV: Elizabeth
We finally got to the pack house, I did sleep most of the way and so the drive went quick.
Milo got out and grabbed my bags and Emilia grabbed hers. He walked me to my room, which he mentioned was right across the hall from my future husband.
He also mentioned that the feast in my honor would be starting in 25 minutes and my presence was requested.
Emilia and I went to get ready and I realized I had only packed causal clothes so I shrugged and went to just brush my hair and Emilia pulled out an amazing dress and handed it to me.
It was a light powdery blue, floor length gown. It had a top layer of what looked like a fancy glitter fabric. Of course it had a laced bodice, as did most of the clothes from my coven. It had long sleeves that flare at the elbow. Off the shoulders were long pieces of fabric that went down to the floor, to add in some depth to it when I walked.
"Your mother didn't think you'd have thought to pack something fancy. She took the liberty to pack you some more clothes." Emilia said as she handed me the dress. I quickly showered and blow dried my hair. I threw on some quick makeup, and blew dried my hair with some magic. Sometimes it was nice being a witch.
Emilia was wearing her traditional battle dress. The guards never wore anything else from what I had ever seen. It was perfect for formal or causal, and they had special cuts along the skirt to help them fight without getting tangled in it.
I looked at my watch and it was 12:10. Sh*t. Already late.
I opened the bedroom door and Milo was waiting. Looking impatient. He hurried us along the hallways. I could hear the sounds of many people just ahead.
We entered a big dining room. There were 5 long tables down the length of the room, and at the end of them was one table going along the back wall. It was raised by a few steps as to be higher than the rest of the tables. At the table sat Jasper, the only one I recognized and several others. There were two empty seats at the table.
As Milo began to walk us to the table the whole room got quite. I was so glad my mother had packed me this dress as everyone was in full length gowns or suits.
As we passed the end of the table Milo pulled out an empty chair and motioned for Emilia to sit. Much to my displeasure I realized the two empty seats were mine and Milos.
We continued up to the seats at the head table. At this point the silence had become eerie. I sat at the spot next to a younger man, he was quite handsome. He had a sour look on his face and refused to look at me, Milo sat at Jaspers right.
Jasper began to talk. "Welcome my wonderful pack. Today is a special day. We slebrate the begining of fall, the harvest moon, the changing of the seasons. We feast to the moon goddess and give her praise for all she has given us throughout the year. As the days get shorter and colder let tonight be a good memory to get us through the cold months. At exactly midnight we shall begin our run! All over 16 are welcomed to join, and remember we do have pack daycare for those with littles that want to stretch their paws. Before we feast we have some good news! As I'm sure you have all noticed our guest. May I formally introduce Elizabeth to everyone. Elizabeth is to wed my son on the first day of summer. I know this may come as a shock to many, but please know if any disrespect Elizabeth it is as if they have disrespected me personally. Elizabeth is a witch. In fact she is the eldest daughter of the Snow Crest Coven."
Jasper paused as a small gasp came from the pack.
The man sitting next to me tapped my shoulder and I looked to him. He pulled a small box from his pocket and opened it. He pulled the ring from the box, grabbed my left hand gingerly and slid the ring onto my finger.
I looked at it and it was quite plain, with no gem. It was all black and was in the shape of what appeared to be a lotus. It was stunning in it's simplicity. I loved it.
So this was Johnathan. He didnt ask me anything, or profess his love. This wasn't a proposal. It was simply the announcement of an engagement made by someone else.
I tried to catch his eye, but he refused to look at me.
Jasper continued on with his speech. "This arrangement will bind our people and end our fighting. Let us waste no more time, I am starving as I am sure you all are too. Let the feast begin!" He bellowed the last line.
And with that many servants came from seemingly nowhere with trays and trays of food.
As they began to serve the food I realized it was all meat. There was hardly anything else. Just different cuts of various meats….
I picked every single non meat dish, which was Essentially just different forms of potatoes. I looked at Emilia and she seemed to be having the same issue. It's not that we were vegetarian, we just ate a lot of fruits and vegetables And other foods that seemed non-existent here…..
I tried to not look as disappointed and overwhelmed as I felt while I slowly ate. I took the time to look around at the people in the room.
They truly meant feast, as they were all eating with reckless abandoned to anything else. They were loudly laughing and joking with one another. I'm pretty sure I saw a turkey leg get flung across the room at one point. They all looked so happy and carefree. I hoped I would feel that way here… I hoped things would get better….
Before the feast ended Johnathan disappeared. I wasn't sure where, or even when he had gone. It was 3 by time every had settled and began to filter out of the dining hall. I asked Milo if it would be fine to head back to my room, it had been a tiring day already. He offered to show me back if I needed it but the pack house was quite simple in it's layout compared to my home so I didn't need him to show me. I slowly walked back up the stairs, all the way to the third floor.
When I got to my room I took off the dress as to not ruin it and laid down in bed. I felt suddenly hopeless for the future. Obviously Johnathan didn't care for the marriage, not that I did either. I had never been this far from home. And above it all my mother had take my phone so I couldn't even text my best friend about any of it.
I lost track of how long I laid in bed but soon it got dark. I slipped into a restless sleep. As darkness overtook me I couldn't help but think about Johnathan. He was very handsome. He had wonderfully strait black hair. It fell just above his eyes and out lined his face. He had a jawline that had to have been chiseled out by the moon goddess herself. His skin was perfect and sunkissed. And I could tell he was very muscular under his suit. Maybe being married to him wouldn't suck as much as I had thought it might…..
