Chapter 5

Amelia's Pov: With shaking hands, I opened the door, only to see my boyfriend lying on the bed. In his arms was none other than my half-sister, Mia. I couldn't believe my eyes. Am I dreaming? If this is a dream, then it is the worst nightmare I have ever had. They didn't realize I was watching them because they were too busy kissing each other. "Umm, Mia... I've been waiting for this moment for so long," he moaned. Mia laughed slyly. "Then what about my stupid sister? Ugh, Maid Amelia?" Without realizing it, I held my breath and waited for his answer. "Don't ruin my mood. It's enough just hearing her name. That i***t actually thinks I was in love with someone like her! If you hadn't asked me to do it, I would never have given her a second glance." He sat up on the bed as he spoke. Mia laughed, clearly satisfied with the answer she had been waiting for. "Isn't it fun?" she asked while kissing his cheek. Really? Playing with my feelings was something funny to them? "Of course, baby. Anything for you. Your happiness matters the most." He hugged her as if she were the most precious thing in the world. "Oh, I almost forgot. Speaking of her, I told her I came back, and she said she's going to visit after work." "Oh, good. Just remember one thing—spend the night with her at any cost. If she doesn't agree, give her that magic drink." What? What magic drink was she talking about? Why did she want him to spend the night with me? What was her real intention? Wanting to know more about their plan, I stayed where I was. Tears silently streamed down my face as I listened. "Yeah, I know," he replied, sounding as though this wasn't something he actually wanted to do. "But are you sure about this? I mean... you know. Spending the night means a lot to a girl. Won't you feel bad? Won't you get jealous if something happens between us?" He was right. If Mia truly loved him, wouldn't she be jealous? Then why was she playing with everyone's feelings? "Why would I be jealous when I know you're mine?" she replied confidently. "And I don't want to drag this on any longer. Let's end this." I frowned. I didn't understand what she meant. "End?" he asked, equally confused. It seemed I wasn't the only one who didn't understand her intentions. "Yeah. End it. Sleep with her, then leave her. That way, you can finally be mine forever." She climbed onto his lap and began kissing his neck. "Really?" he asked excitedly. Neither of them realized that every word was shattering my heart into pieces. I left. I didn't know where I was going. I just ran. I ran down the road without a destination, tears falling uncontrollably from my eyes. So many unanswered questions filled my mind. Why? Why did he do this? Why did they play with my feelings? Wasn't I already suffering enough? Why did they want to hurt me even more? Why did she hate me so much when she already had everything that belonged to me? I thought he was different. I thought he was serious about me. I thought he genuinely loved me. If he didn't, then why did he wait for two years and pressure me so much? He supported me. He helped me through every difficult situation. From the very beginning, he knew I was treated like a maid—a slave in my own home. Yet he never questioned it. I thought he loved me for who I was. I thought he cared about me and didn't want to hurt me by talking about my family. I was so wrong. All these years... I was completely wrong. Why? What did they gain from breaking my heart? If he never wanted me, why did he approach me in the first place? Were all the moments we spent together a lie? Was everything planned from the beginning? Why? Why me? "AAAAAH!" I screamed. Unable to take another step, I collapsed onto my knees in the middle of the road. I cried. I screamed. I didn't care who saw me. The tears kept falling as though they would never stop. Suddenly, I felt someone gently touch my shoulder. "Child, what happened to you?" an elderly woman asked. I looked up at her in confusion. So many people had passed by, yet not a single one had stopped to ask if I was okay. But she did. For some reason, her presence felt familiar. I didn't know why. It felt as though I had known her for a long time. I knew it sounded crazy. Wiping my tears away, I stood up. "Did I disturb you? I'm sorry," I said softly. To my surprise, she hugged me. "No, child, you didn't disturb me at all. I was just passing by when I saw you crying. The way you're crying tells me you've been through a lot." She gently patted my back. "Just remember this—everything will be fine. Sometimes it takes time, but it will. Don't lose hope. When the right time comes, everything will fall into place." She pulled back from the hug and smiled warmly. I nodded. "If you want to talk, I have plenty of time." I didn't know what to say. She was a complete stranger. Could I really trust her? Then again, how could I forget what had happened only minutes ago? The person I had trusted and loved for four years had betrayed me. Maybe trust had nothing to do with how long you knew someone. Some people were simply meant to betray you. Seeing my hesitation, she smiled again. "Sometimes it's easier to share your feelings with a stranger. You may never meet them again, but your heart will feel lighter after letting everything out." For some reason, I believed her. I slowly nodded. She pointed toward a small café nearby. "Let's grab something to eat first. Then we can continue our conversation." Only then did I realize how hungry I was.
