I was taken aback by Marietta's sudden declaration of loyalty. No one had ever sworn allegiance to me before, and I didn't know how to react. But as I looked into her eyes, I saw sincerity and trust.
“Uh, thank you?” I said, feeling a bit awkward. “But why? Why did you swear your loyalty to me when you don't even know me?”
I felt puzzled. Nate has never introduced me to this person and in the few days I've been in this pack house, I haven't seen or met her.
“I've been in charge of the library for several decades now and thus I know the signs and visuals of a Luna. Welcome, please accept my sworn loyalty.”
All I did was nod and a bright smile soon appeared on her face.
“You may rise.” I felt throat-tied as I spoke and could only shake my head to relieve the awkward tension.
