A First Date

Collin and Skaiylee stayed outside of the history classroom for a few minutes before 5th period could begin as they didn't sit together for this class. "How was English?" She asked him. He shrugged. "Same old. How was Algebra?" He asked. Skai smiled, excited that hed remembered that she was in Algebra, but lost the smile quickly realizing that he'd probably have found that unattractive. That she was in Algebra 1 as a junior…… She royally sucked at math. She decided to simply make a wince and shrug. Collin c****d his head to the side trying to decipher what the face meant. "Didn't go well?" He gathered. Skai put her hands in her pockets and leaned against the wall outside class. " I HATE math. Always have. It's such a waste of time." Collin wholly disagreed but thought before he spoke. He didn't want to upset his new girlfriend after all. "And…. You definitely don't agree." Skai continued guessing Collins lack of fast response that he felt the opposite. Gosh he was good at everything! Of course he wouldn't hate a subject. Collin licked his lips. "You know Math is the same in every language. It just takes some practice. I'd be happy to tutor you, Skai. I did algebra a few years ago. Piece of cake." Skai shook her head slowly in disbelief. Because Seriously?! "Wait!" She started. "You're a sophomore! How did you do algebra two years ago!??!" Colin smiled a bit. "I like math….. I'm good at it." He shrugged one shoulder as Skai just continued to shake her head. He smiled bigger. Skai was really being so cute. "You're good at everything!" She said finally and pulled his hand with her into the class as the bell rang, right on time. Collin found his seat separating from Skaiys hand as Mr. North stood to greet the class. Collin thought still though, 'she didn't answer if she wanted to be tutored or not? Because he was happy to do it if she was open to it.' The teacher began his typical very slow lecture, and the teen figured he'd revisit the offer later. If she was going to be his girlfriend, she really should do better in school. Especially if she ever had any Hope's of meeting his parents. Oh gosh. That reminded him. His parents. That he was going to have to let know that he has a girlfriend sometime soon…. Yeah. He definitely had to get her doing alot better in school. ~~~~~ All throughout history class, in which Skai spent a good portion of class secretly watching Collin do his schoolwork and concentrate for the most part on his assignment. He looked up at Skaiylee several times and smiled, and every time he did, Skai turned into a blushing mess. But he did do his work for the full hour, that was for sure. How did he do that with the rest of the class being so chatty? Skai couldnt…. She just couldn't concentrate when the subject bored her to death. Besides, Skai was focused on something Collin said before class…. He had offered to tutor her….. she wondered if that was the way to his heart. Studying? She did have plenty to do in her classes she thought if she'd bother to write down her assignments and junk. She just never did. It didn't interest her. And on top of that, no one really cared about her grades. So she didn't care either. But she had tons of fans of her music. So she loved it and focused on it. Things were never quiet enough at her house to concentrate on anything that took too much effort for her anyway. And music was pretty effortless. But sometimes, She even had to spend time in quiet corners of school grounds to write her music lyrics. Writing new music in her bedroom was easy when it was beat, etc because her own noise could drown out everyone else's. She just required headphones to block out undesired noise. But she couldn't listen to music and do homework or school stuff at the same time. She had to sing along. Or hum. Anything where music was involved somehow. she just couldnt help it. So schoolwork just didn't happen. And she was okay with it for the most part. Like she said before, none cared But if dating Collin meant caring about school, she only hoped she wouldn't be a total disaster. Good thing it was poetry unit in english. She might not look like a complete i***t if she could get an A on her own…… What could Collin think though of the rest of her grades? She hated thinking about that. ~~ Collin tended to always be more bored in history over any other subject unless they were doing some sort of project that would cause him to think more. The young man was clearly not all that interested in it, despite having an A in the class. It was so simple all you had to do really is just memorize the relevant dates and who they relate to and they were always bland and didnt hold much interest. He knew that people that didnt know history were doomed to repeat it. However the thing is he believed that it applied to politics . You really did not need to know this stuff unless you were planning to guide the country in some way. It tended to be quite clear that every politician ever has been holding office in the last 50 years didnt take anything to heart. They tend to make the same mistakes over and over again. He found it hilarious that the people dictating what everyone learns considering the political reprsenitives dont know anything that they are insisting that the students learn. He always hated when anything mixed with politics considering it was all just stupid and should of been changed and fix a while ago. He gave his head a shake getting all the stupid thoughts out of his head. He couldn't wait for history to be over so he would be freed from all the stupid mistakes that humanity had made….. It was so easy to be distracted this period. He noticed his girlfriend being a ton more distracted than he was, that was no secret at all. She was doodling. Not at all focussing on the class assignment which was very typical for her, but what hed not noticed before now, Skai would smile anytime collin looked up at her and he looked over in her direction alot more today than he ever really had. There was something exciting about having a girlfriend he had to admit. And she really was incredibly cute. After class would be interesting he knew that for sure because This girl was full of surprises today so far. As the 330 bell got closer and closer to ringing, Skai found herself getting nervous….. why was she getting nervous? She didnt have a curfew herself and was happy to miss the school bus as she usually prefferred anyway. She knew that either Coby or Jeb could always drive her home and they both had sports practice untill 530 so she often stayed on school grounds and just hung with friends or wrote her music. She wondered if Collin would stay around after school to hang out with her. She had so much to learn about him. And he about her. But did he have a curfew? Was he being picked up by a parent? She had so much to learn. And she would start with his phone number. The bell sounded, and the class all gathered their belongings to head out for the day. Skai approached Collins desk as he was tucking his history book into his bag. "Hey! I don't have to leave school today until my buddy's out of track practice. Are you allowed to stick around and we can hang out?" Skai asked. She hoped it didn't sound pushy or anything….. she just wanted to get to know beneath his quiet persona he showed to the world. Collin looked up at Skai with a smile after getting everything into his bag and closing it up. The young man gave it a thought for a few seconds. it was Tuesday …. So that meant chess club today and there was no problem bringing a friend if you wanted to. "Well normally I would have to head straight home but today I have chess club. So if you would care to hang out with me there. They welcome new people. They are a bunch of geeks you should know though. They might bring down your school rep." He said teasingly. Skaiylee could only smile through biting her bottom lip. Because Chess club she thought? Really? She gave it a moment and then realized, duh. He would be in chess club. That's one of those smart kid things. Of course he was. It wasnt surprising at all, really. "My rep is so safe it's not even funny. I make school worth going to with my amazing music. I could join the mathletes and still be popular." Skaiylee laughed. "My school rep will be just fine. In fact, I might make your chess club alot cooler." Skai had a very devious grin on her lips but looked genuinely serious. Did she even know how to play chess? He could not help but chuckle. "Well then why dont you join me in my other club too then. Since you are obviously already interested in it." He said with a small wink at her, finding it hilarious that she would pluck the other club that he was in right out of the air. Skai shook her head slowly. Sighing. He HAD to be a mathlete too….. well. She knew how to pick them….. it would definitely explain him being a sophomore in trigonometry. "Of course you're a mathlete…. And No thanks for that offer. I suck at math. Remember? Although,I have been considering for a while to offer to pay you to do my math homework, Mr. "I finished Algebra 2 years ago." Collin started laughing and Skai couldn't help but laugh along. Gosh he was so damn cute. "Well I wont do your homework for you because YOU have to learn it for yourself. However I will be more then willing to help teach you so that way you could at least understand it better. Heck I might help you in your other classes too. You know I am really quite smart in my studies and I shouldn't have that much problem in helping you out. I would even be quite reasonable with my rates maybe just a kiss or a hug here and there as payment." He said finishing up deadpan trying to make a joke. Skaiylee blushed some to hear Collin say anything about kissing and got suddenly way too nervous to be in the classroom. skai gestured for Colin to follow her out of the classroom since they were the last to be left inside. They met eyes for a bit too long when Mr North cleared his throat to alert them back to earth. They started walking out quickly then as Mr. North eyed the two of them fiercelt as they walked past him and into the hall. It wasnt until the teens were a few feet away that Skai said her next piece. "So, Dont get ahead of yourself Garrett. I want you as my boyfriend. not my teacher. You can tutor maybe one class I suppose..... but I tend to not like teachers, remember? Wouldnt want to ruin our relationship before we've even started." She frowned a little at saying that out loud. She hoped that wasnt a dealbreaker. Her sucking at school? Because she was definitely not interested in dating guys like her. Colins intelligence was one of the things she found so attractive about him. And suddenly she found herself with drymouth and pulled out her bottle of water to chug and get it together. "Well that's good to know. Your not just after me for my massive head." Skaiylee choked on her water! "COLLIN!" She exclaimed with a shocked smile. "What?" He asked his head falling to his shoulder. What was with her outburst, he was just saying that it was nice that she wasn't going after him for his brains and it was something more maybe. Skai squinted her brows now. … Did he really not get the MASSIVE s*x joke he just made? There was no way …. He was a 16 year old boy.. that HAD to have been on purpose…. Right? "What do you mean what?! You-" She paused for a second to read his face. Holy crap…. Maybe he didn't get it .. "Collin. Massive head? s****l innuendo? Ha ha?" She offered questioning. "Oh!" He said a blush coming to his face having no idea of the innuendo he had made. He coughed before speaking again. "Well ya… I am sorry about that. I would never make a joke like that considering we just started talking like this….. not to mention I dont make s*x jokes." Skai was a little baffled. . . There was so much that she didn't know about this boy. He didnt make s*x jokes? What boy didnt think about s*x 24/7? That's part of the reason Skai didn't really date. All guys in high school wanted was s*x. She enjoyed s*x too dont get her wrong, but it wasn't all there was in the world like guys seemed to think. Did she really luck out in finding a guy who wasnt a s*x crazed teenager? But it was true for Collin. with all of his focus on studying and grades,he never really had time to think about s*x or anything of the sort. Not really. Sure, his eyes would stare at some of the cute girls in school and his mind had surely wandered a few times, but they would never stay long. his musings were usually short lived before his studies called him back. After all he must get good grades to get into a good school so that he could support himself….. Sex and things like it were going to wait for college as far as he thought. Then again, hed never had a girlfriend before. He had no idea if his feelings about the subject would change or even if he would want it to. It didnt matter for the moment though. for now, he and skaiylee were new. Just starting to get to know each other. Today, it would be over a few games of chess. Which he still didnt know if she knew how to play. Getting back on subject, Collin went back to talking about getting Skaiylee caught up in school. "So. As for you not liking teachers, think of me as… a helper. I am happy to help when you want me to." He said with a smile. His hand moving and rubbing the back of his head a little nervously. Skai was glad Collin got back on subject on his own. She was embarrased now that she assumed he was talking about s*x when really he was far from it. "Great song today Skai! I see you nabbed the lucky bastard! Super jealous!" A classmate called, lightly clapping Collin on the shoulder as the couple walked past the quad. "Thanks Shane" Skai answered continuing to walk, and also grabbing Collins hand to hold with pride as they walked, realizing that oh yeah! They were officially dating now. Collin smiled lookeling at Skaiylees hand now hiding his. He liked the feeling of their hands entangled. But… he didn't know how to explain how he felt being on a popular girls arm. All this was just plain new and strange to him. He wondered what they would end up talking about for one, and secondly, he imagined so many verbal screw ups he was bound to make talking with this cute and popular girl on his arm. He was so awkward with things like this, because he wasn't experienced with it. That was another reason he tended to stay in books. He didn't contribute to writing them, so he wasn't responsible for anything unpredictable. As they made their way to the chess club, Collin tried to think about what he could talk about with her. What was she into besides her music? What was home life like? And did she know how to play chess?! As they went into the room set aside for the club, he gave a quick wave in greeting to everyone already there which was most members. Almost everyone In the club who saw him walking in the room holding Skaiylees hand had raised eyebrows. What collin didn't know is what that meant. Was it disbelief? Annoyance? Shock? A few people smiled probably seeing the rally or being fans of Skymouths music, but most of the club just looked baffled. Very few didn't have any expression at all. Skai found herself worried about messing up Collins reputation now seeing the reaction of the other chess clubbers when they'd walked in. She was definitely getting a "what is she doing here? Vibe. And not really in a good way. More a, she doesn't belong here kind of way…… It was chess club though….. she didnt expect them to be the judgy type. Not that she cared… she was quite confident in herself and she knew how to play chess so shed easily prove herself. But she was more worried about being here making Collin uncomfortable. The teens grabbed a board and nabbed a table to play at and began to set up the match. As Skai helped set up the white pieces correctly, Collins main question of the last 10 minutes was answered. Hmm he thought. "So who taught you how to play chess?"
