Darius takes me to the most expensive restaurant in town, our usual table already waiting for us. Although we live in a small werewolf town, I feel like a celebrity whenever I am with Darius. Since he is the future Alpha, everyone treats him with respect and awe, and now that he has proclaimed me as his destined mate, I get the full Luna treatment too.
I blush slightly at the thought, but I secretly enjoy every second of it.
"I tell you, babe, my wolf is a deadly beast," Darius says for what feels like the tenth time this evening. "I shifted again today, and the power I felt was beyond anything you've ever seen."
I take another bite of my salad and nod enthusiastically. I have not seen his wolf yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
"I ran so fast, Jason could only eat the dust behind me. And then I beat him six times in a fight. Six times! You should have seen him. His wolf wasn't happy about it at all," Darius sniggers and takes a swig of his bear.
Jason is our mutual friend. He shifted seven months ago, and I could only imagine how much Darius bruised his ego by besting him so soon after his first shift.
"He should have known better than to take you on. You are an Alpha wolf, after all," I say, smiling fondly at him. I was proud to call him mine.
"You got that right," Darius says. "Do you want a dessert?" He asks, and I recognize this as a trick question. He commented on my weight gain two weeks ago, and I've been careful about my diet since.
Although I inherited my parents' lean and strong physique, I quit my warrior training a year ago, and it shows. But Darius insisted the future Luna did not need the warrior training, which I guess was true. Once I officially accept the position, I will have a wolf bodyguard assigned to me all the time. So I dropped out of the Beta Warrior course, effectively breaking my family's tradition.
"No, thank you," I reply with a smile, even though it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. "I am full."
Darius nods approvingly and hands his card to the waiter. The move slightly helps with my mood. He never lets me pay.
"Shall we go?" my mate asks. "I have a surprise for you."
Excitement fills me, and I remember why I fell in love with him in the first place. Ever since we started dating, Darius has been treating me like a princess, spoiling me with gifts and romantic gestures.
"Yes, baby," I squeal happily, earning a disapproving glance from him. Right, we're still in public. So I school my features into something I like to call "politely interested face" and follow him outside.
Once in his car, Darius switches from a perfect gentleman into a hotblooded teen, gripping my bare knee almost enough to bruise.
"You are even stronger now," I praise him. He beams at me and speeds away from the town, down the dirt road that leads to our favorite place.
It takes minutes to reach the clearing on the cliffside—a spot we claimed as ours. The beautiful spring night envelops us, and I take a second to enjoy the sight of countless stars visible due to the lack of artificial lights.
I hear rustling behind me, but I don't turn around until I feel Darius's hands embracing me. I lean into his familiar warmth.
I could stay like this forever.
I feel Darius's lips on my neck, making me shiver with desire. He licks the place where his mark will reside one day, lightly nibbling the place, and I moan. Without another word, he pulls me towards the blanket I now see he laid out for us, and I forget the world exists once his mouth meets mine.

"Baby, I've been thinking something," Darius breaks our kiss and pulls away from me to look into my eyes. I whimper in displeasure about stopping our heated makeout session, making him smirk. He gives me a quick peck on the lips but continues, "I think it's time for us to go all the way."
That cools me down faster than a bucket of cold water. "Wh, What?" I stammer, trying to gather my wits enough to comprehend what he is asking.
"Well, we've been dating for a long time, and now that we know we are true mates, I think we should mate," Darius says, looking intently into my eyes.
