That night, I lie awake in bed, fighting the sleepiness off. The house is quiet, and so is everything outside, except for the occasional night creature breaking the silence with its screeching. Still, I strain to listen, to hear the front door opening, silent footsteps, doors quietly opening and closing, something, anything that would clue me in on Ethan's presence. But there's nothing. I do this every night until the sleep finally consumes me, and yet I've never heard him come in, never seen him go in the morning. Does he really spend every waking hour with her?
