Chapter 7 (Back in Sitka. Tuesday. Elizabeth is in charge.) Elizabeth Kitka woke up abruptly. She hadn’t expected to sleep — too worried — but here she was, curled up on the couch, covered with an afghan. It took a moment to re-orient herself. She checked the bedrooms to make sure her sons hadn’t come in during the night. She didn’t think they had, but it was almost compulsive. Not unlike when they were teens. She’d doze off on the couch waiting for them. They’d try to slip in without waking her so they could claim they hadn’t been out past their curfews. She snorted at the memory.
