Chapter 16
(Sitka. Elizabeth’s home. Still Tuesday.)
Joe Bob listened to his boss on the phone. He pulled his ear away from it and looked at it in bafflement. His boss had gone to the Sitka police department after leaving the hospital to see Duke Campbell and demand an investigation into the disappearance of his officer. Joe Bob would like to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. Although, apparently Duke had ducked out, leaving the dispatcher to handle the irate captain. The assistant chief Mike Anderson hadn’t been available either. Fancy that. The dispatcher had been more than willing to find the captain a desk and to pull whatever records he wanted. Duke might regret leaving his office unguarded.
Maybe Lanky could be prevailed upon to divulge the details.
