12 PAM VALOIS When the door slammed behind Dan, Peter banged the paper on the table. “Damn! You can’t tell them anything at his age.” The domestic-service android known as Kayten refilled two coffee cups. The unit was designed to look and act as a human and appeared to be in his late teens or early twenties with a slender athletic build. Peter had modeled Kayten using his son as a template and had been so successful that even his wife had mistaken Kayten for Dan when the android was clipping bushes in the backyard.
