17 VETTING Carlos Oreta entered O’Rourke’s office and flopped down in the visitor chair. The handsome, six-foot-one Latino with tanned skin, brown eyes, and curly black hair smiled. Tan slacks and a blue blazer, even without a gold badge, made him look like the law. At twenty-eight he’d earned a degree from Fresno State in law enforcement and worked briefly with a private investigation firm before being recruited by Cybernetic, where he’d been a security agent for almost two years.
