Chapter Ten
And Then There Was One
Kelly goes to her parent’s house for the fourth of July. Kelly’s siblings and other relatives also attend. It is a day of hanging out at the pool, drinking beer, and eating all the special, summer foods. The food consists of chips, hamburgers, hot dogs, and Kelly’s mom’s homemade, macaroni salad.
Kelly invites Dave along. She figures the beer and burgers would be right up his alley. Kelly and Dave bring salsa for chips. It is a doctored up store bought salsa with extra vegetables and cilantro.
The afternoon is spent around the pool. It is a family, small town celebration. Kelly does get a chance to talk with her mom while Dave is playing football catch with some of the teenage kids.
Kelly’s mom asks her, “How are you and Dave doing?”
