Chapter Nine Eyes “Nurse McCarron, I want you in my exam room,” Dr. Stone confronted Nancy by the nurse’s station, just as she was returning from a break. “Now?” “Yes, now.” He looked annoyed—for no reason that Nancy could figure out. “But I have meds to dispense.” “Nurse Ferguson will take care of it. Now, get going, don’t waste my time arguing.” Nancy wondered what he’d told her supervisor about her absence, but then again, that really wasn’t her concern. Nervous and flustered, she immediately headed for that horrible room. Once there, she quaked in fear as she waited, dreading the pain they would put her through.
