15| Twenty Questions

"I love you, take my hand and we can run away."

"Runaway and start a life together."

"Oh! Drake, I will follow you to the ends of the earth."

"Oh my God, that's it?!" Rose yelled at the TV. "I wasted two hours of my life," Liam whined.

"I had my headphones in the whole time, what was it about?" Mason yawned.

"This was bullshit life isn't like this shit." Liam groaned. "This was beautiful..." I wiped tears from my eyes.

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" Everyone yelled in disbelief.

"What?!" I yelled.

"Next time I'm picking the movie." Cole stated.

It was Saturday and we all where huddled up in Liam's living room, I know talk about awkward I haven't talked to this guy in a week since that incident happened I could feel the tension throughout the whole movie he would look at me and, I would take a peek at him from under my covers.

Rose was coming because Cole invited her he say's "He wanted to see her." Since we didn't have school on Friday. I say leave the guy hanging making him wanting more but, hey that's just me.

Rose literally begged me with her puppy dog eyes, I mean how could I say no to a face like that. Besides she had a good reason for doing so, she says she couldn't be alone in a house full of troublemakers. I mean I get it they are possibly in a gang!

"You guys don't know a good romance when you see one." I sighed. "A good romance there is no such thing." Liam chuckles looking at his phone.

"Uh, yeah Romeo & Juliet." I say.

"They both died." Rose said. "Yeah died for love." I retorted.

"ICONIC!" I yelled.

Everyone stared at me and threw a pillow dead at my face.

I rolled my eyes. "I'm so glad we don't have school tomorrow, I'm so tired." Rose yawned. I stared at her she was lying on the floor cuddling with Cole. Lovebirds.

"You guys should just get married already," Mason said as he laid down to sleep.

Soon it was just me and Liam up.

"You can sleep in my bed if you want." Liam said flashing his phone light on me making me squint.

"Really? I don't want to-"

He started to get comfortable on the couch, "Yes really. I'm fine right here, I've slept in worse places before." He said as he closed his eyes.

What did he mean by that?

I stood up and scurried my way to his room.

I flicked on the light. I walked to his piano I brushed my hands across the keys.

I smiled to myself I wonder if he could play me something one day.

I was about to hop into his bed until I spotted a pill bottle.

I reached out to grab it, what is he doing with Antidepressants?

I shot up in Liam's bed. I looked to my right and to my left Liam was lying in the bed with me. I screamed inside my head. I didn't wanna wake him up, He looked so peaceful.

I rubbed my fingers down his cheek, wow he's so hot. Okay, stop it! You're supposed to hate this dude.

"What time is it?" He groaned, I pulled my hand away and looked at him he was squinting. "Close the curtains." He said in a raspy voice.

He grabbed me by my waist and started to cuddle with me like I was a teddy bear. "W-what are you d-doing?!" I stuttered.

He was half asleep. "L-Liam." I whispered.

I tried to get out of his grasp, but damn when I say he got a stronghold, he got a f*****g strong ass hold.

"Don't leave me... please." He whispered. I bit my bottom lip. Shiiiitt!! I won't! Baby we an stay like this forever! "I-I won't." Those words escaped my lips.

I slowly started to drift back to sleep well, that was until my phone f*****g ringed and that ruined the whole mood.

Liam let go of me and sat up. "What is that noise?!" He said in an alert tone. "It's just my phone." I say holding it up.

"Oh." He relaxed.

He jumped out of bed, I gulped as I saw his perfectly sculpted body. OH SWEET BABY JESUS!

"Are you going to answer it?"

"Right."

"MOM!" I exclaimed throwing the covers off of me and standing up, I didn't feel the cold breeze hitting my bare body at the time I guess I was happy. So I continued to walk around his room with a smile on my face.

I looked a Liam he was leaning against his dresser with a smirk on his face, I looked at him like he was weird and rolled my eyes.

"Hey, sweetie!" My mom says through the phone.

She started to cough, every time I've talked to her she had a hard cough it was making me feel weird and concerned.

"Mom, I'm coming home today." I blurted that out. "You don't have to worry about me, I'm fine." She reassured. "No, I miss you like A LOT!"

"I'm coming over."

"But that's like a Twelve-hour drive." She stated. "I don't care I want to see you." I bit my bottom lip. 

"Okay." She said.

I know she was happy, I know her she really wanted me to come but, I heard something in her voice something that didn't settle right with me.

"I'll see you then." I smiled. "Bye, sweetie."

I hung up the phone and plopped back down on the bed.

"You okay?" Liam asked. I forgot he was in the room. "I'm fine, f*****g fine." I groaned.

I let out a loud sigh. "Breakfast is ready!!" I heard Rose announce from downstairs.

I got up and started to walk towards the door, "Woah!" I heard Liam say behind me, "Aren't you forgetting something?" He chuckles.

"What?"

He looked me up and down, I started to look down my eyes widened, "Oh s**t!" I blurt out covering myself with my arms. "Nice body." He says walking past me.

I thought I just took off my shirt I must have taken my pants off while I was half asleep... What? It gets hot.

Everyone was already eating, "Wow!!" I said in amazement. "You likey? I made it." Cole smirked.

"He's the whole package." I whispered to Rose

Rose faked gagged but, I saw that cheeky girl blush.

"Rose..." I smiled. "Nia..."

"Can you drive me to my mom's house..." I whispered.

"What?"

"Can you drive me to my mom's house..." I coughed.

"That's like an eight-hour drive." She blurted out. "Please..." I begged. "I wish I could but, I have to work." She sighed. "By work I mean my dad wants me home to study... He sees one C minus and he wants to lock me in my room."

I place my head on the table, "Ugh! Your dad is trippin'. What does he be smokin'?" I groan. "That's my Asian father for ya, I don't know he be overdoing it." She sighed.

"Mason, darling." I smiled. "No can do sis. I love you and all BUT, I have a game today and I can not miss practice." He shrugged his shoulders and continued to eat his waffles.

"Cole."

He started laughing and he walked away.

I look up at everyone in disbelief.

"Why can't you ask your old man?" Mason questioned. "I don't think my mom wants to see his ass." I muttered. "Oh. You live in two separate homes?" Rose questioned.

"Yeah." I whisper and sip my water.

This whole time I've been down here I actually never talk about me nobody really knows why I'm here.

My last option was Liam. I was hoping someone would agree before I had to ask him.

Stuck in a car with someone who's been ignoring you and almost got you killed is not the best option, like ever.

But I promised my mom.

I turned my whole body to Liam he was stuffing his face with pancakes he wasn't even paying attention.

I cleared my throat. "Liam, Buddy, Friend..."

"No."

I banged my head on the table. "I really need to get my license." I muttered to myself.

"Please Liam." I begged. "If you say yes I'll do whatever you want me to do."

He dropped his fork and looked at me. "You should watch what you say." He said with a smirk.

"Yeah but I'm desperate." I shrugged.

"Fine, but anything I want." He says with an evil smirk.

We're doing this again?

I'm regretting this now. "We leave in 15 minutes." He smirked.

Okay, I said I ran upstairs to grab my belongings.

As Liam exits the kitchen to get ready for a long drive Rose ask's, "Did you really have practice?"

"Girl I barely can get up to pee at night." Mason chuckles

"I just wanted to see them get together that's all. They have things to work out."

"We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship!" I sang out loud as we drove onto the highway. "Shut up" Liam groaned. "Someone's cranky." I teased.

"Your car is nice as usual, no more bullet dents," I mutter the last part. One thing a man keeps clean is his car. "Maybe you can clean your room like you clean your car." I teased.

"Maybe you can be quiet like it was five minutes ago." He retorted.

"This is going to be a three-hour car ride I can't just be quiet." I yapped.

How am I suppose to turn this conversation around? I wanna get to know him.

AH! play 20 questions as the f**k boys do.

"Let's play 20 questions!!" I exclaimed.

"Lets not!!" He said.

"I'll ask you something and you get to ask me something." I explained.

He frowned but then that frown turned it to a mischievous smile. "Okay." He said calmly.

"I'll go first!!"

He nodded his head, "Why did you ignore me after what happened?" I asked.

He tensed up. "Getting right to the juicy questions, aye?"

"Yep." I popped the 'p'

"I was protecting you." He groaned. "Protecting me from what?"

"That's two questions, my turn."

I rolled my eyes, "What's up with your family?"

"I wouldn't really call it a family." I dryly laughed, "My dad cheated on my mom with that wrinkled old lady."

"What? I though she was pretty hot."

I stared at him in disgust, "You should jump out of this car." I said, unlocking the car doors.

He started to laugh, "Okay! Next question!" He said with a smirk. "Wow, look who eager to play."

We made it up to 19 questions until we arrived at my house. More like a run down one story house.

"Were here!" I exclaimed. Liam got out the car and stretched. I ran up the short driveway.

I grabbed my keys and unlocked the door.

"MOM! YOUR FAVORITE DAUGHTER IS HERE!!" I exclaimed excitedly as I ran up the stairs.

"Nia!" She yells she was lying in her bed.

I basically tackled her into a hug she laughs, "I missed you so much!"

"I missed you too." She coughs.

I slowly get off her I look around her there were bottles of medicine on her nightstand, "What's all this?" I questioned picking up a bottle. "I have cold. The doctor told me to take those."

"How are you feeling?" I asked looking at her concerned, "I'm great it's just a cold." She laughs. "Okay..." I say unsure.

"It's okay." She holds my hand. "I'm doing fine now that you're here." She smiled.

And that made me smile. "Nia do you want these fries?" I turned around to see Liam eating my fries, I glared at him. "You are already eating them."

"Who is this young fella?"

"Hi, Ms. Carter, nice to finally meet you."

Liam came in and shook her hand. "My names Liam." He explained.

"Nice to meet you Liam." She looked at me with a 'girl you better snatch up this fine piece of meat.' Look.

I rolled my eyes. "Do you need anything?" I asked. "Can you go in the fridge and get me a Popsicle?" She asked. "What flavor?"

"Orange."

"Coming right up."

I walked out of the room to the kitchen, this place still looks the same. Seems like I haven't been here in ages. I grabbed the Popsicle box I shook it, it was empty.

I sighed and threw the box in the trash.

I walked back to the room but I came to a quick pause.

"With all due respect ma'am but these are strong pills for severe pain... not for the common cold." I heard Liam say.

She dryly laughed, "You have keen eyes." she say's, "You caught me..." she trailed off.

"Are you alright?"

"I'm far from alright, listen... Liam, you seem like a good man, I'm going to tell you something but you must not tell Nia."

"I can't promise you."

"Understandable. I sent her away to her fathers because I have cancer."

My heart stopped, I felt like I wasn't breathing or anything. I covered my mouth refraining me from letting out a gasp. To hell she has cancer.

"I'm going to leave this world soon, and I'm scared to leave her alone."

"You seem like a man that will be in her life for a very long time."

"I trust you to make her happy."

"I promise, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."

I was leaning on the wall covering my mouth tears where escaping my eyes.

I wiped my eyes and put on the best fake smile and walked inside her room. "There are no more Popsicle we can go to the store and get some if you'd like." I said with a raspy voice.

There was this huge lump in my throat and it hurt like hell I swallowed it down and kept on smiling.

"Sure."

The car ride was silent to the store that was until Liam broke that silence, "How come your dad doesn't give her money to live in a better environment?" He questions, "Not to be rude or anything."

"She didn't want his money, after all, he did cheat on her leaving me and my mom to fend for ourselves." I say and step out of the car.

"Welcome to SolvesBerry."

I smiled at the lady and continued to walk to the frozen aisle, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Shay and Trey, they still going strong, huh.

I dove behind Liam, "What's the matter with you?" He questioned turning his body around I grabbed onto his waist making him look forwards. "Nothing..." I muttered.

I watched as they made their way to the cashier, "Who were they?" He asks.

"My ex-best friend and my ex-boyfriend... found them kissing each other." I explained pulling out the Popsicle box from the freezer.

"That f*****g sucks..." He pauses, "I'm sorry to cut your story short, but I really need to take a piss!"

I chuckled, "Go ahead."

I wait for him leaning on the shelf on my phone playing candy crush.

"I think I forgot something!" I heard Shay yell.

OH GOD!

She turned into the aisle I stopped in my tracks, "Fuck." I mutter.

"Hey..." I awkwardly trail off. "Oh wow! your back in town?" she spoke

Her voice sounds so different she sounds like one of those fake bitches at my old school. "Girl what's taking you so long... the lady is waiting." I heard Trey say.

He stopped dead in his tracks and looked me up and down, "Didn't expect to see you here." He says crossing his arms.

Shay put all her weight to her right leg, "I know right. Did your dad kick you out as well?" She says with a smirk. Yeah, she definitely sounds like one of those bitches.

My nails started to dig into the palm of my hand, arms wrapped around my waist from behind, "Are these mean people bothering you?" Liam cooed glaring at Trey.

"Who are you?"

I watched as Trey's eyes narrowed at the sight of Liam. "I'm her boyfriend you got a problem?" Liam says with his new York accent.

My eyes went wide when he said 'boyfriend' then my face heated up when he kissed me on the cheek. OH MY DAMN!

"Woah! Nia has gotten herself a whitey!" Shay chuckled.

"Wow! you've really changed Shay! I didn't know you were such a bitch." I snapped, "Oh please you say it like it a bad thing." She chuckles.

I took a step towards her, "Wow! you're dating my ex, you think you're so big and bad now." I sarcastically say. "If you like sloppy seconds so much you want my leftover sandwich as well?"

I glare at her, "Do me a favor kiss your boyfriend and, tell me how I taste." I hiss as I walk past her.

I was sitting on the porch outside, freezing my ass off. I should've gotten a jacket but I don't wanna go back inside.

I don't wanna see my mom like that.

"It's cold out, you tryna catch a cold." Liam sat down on the step next to me and handed me his jacket, "Thanks." I smiled.

"Is she asleep?"

"Yep, sound asleep."

We sat in silence we were both enjoying the silence and the winter sky.

"You sounded like a bad ass earlier." He chuckled breaking the silence. "Yeah, those words came out of anger I'm still hurt." I dryly laugh, "Don't let them see your hurt, right?" I whisper kicking the pebbles.

"Question 20." He paused. "How can you still smile when there's so much s**t going on in your life?"

I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, "Where still playing?"

He looked at me, I sighed. "Sometimes you have to be strong for the other person." I sadly smiled.

"Its okay to cry sometimes, Nia."

"Question 20." I say.

"Why were those guys shooting at us?"
