Liz, how do I say it?

Beth's POV I feel so awkward just standing here in front of these people who are just staring at me. Ashton must have realized because he clears his throat to divert their stares from me. "Guys I told you she was beautiful. But please you are scaring the poor girl, don't stare at her like that." Everyone on the table shifts a bit after being called out. The first to speak is a pretty brunette with a purple streak on her hair. "Hi, sorry about my friends here. They are not used to pretty girls actually looking at them. My name is Amelia but you can call me Mel." She finishes with a soft smile. "My name is Scott."Seconds a dirty blonde getting halfway up to shake my hand. "Jordan." he just smiles and lifts up a peace sign. "Verónica, but everyone calls me Vrony." she offers a shy smile. "So far seen anything interesting for you?" "Thank you, I'm Lizbeth but you can call me Liz." I try to smile shyly. "And only thing I am interested in is today's volleyball tryouts. I heard they are intense." "They are, but I can just tell you will do great." Amelia chirps in. "I'm on the team and coach makes these tryouts super hard to make sure only the best get in. Not to brag or anything." "Not at all, I just hope to be good enough to make the team." After we all introduced ourselfs and are seated at the table I sense someone behind me. "Isaac don't." Commands Ashton as if he were talking to a dog. "So boring, Ash." Says a voice behind me. "Hey you, see you finally earned the privilege to meet the team." Have we met? Oh right I'm Liz. "I guess so. Ashton introduced us." I offer a smile. "Good, they wanted to meet you to see which of us lied about you. Ashton said you were beautiful and shy and it was just so cute how easy you got uncomfortable with his dumb comments, we had to meet you." He scoffs as if none of that were true. Funny how it totally described Liz in an unknown environment. "Yeah? What did you say?" I raise an eyebrow looking at him. "The truth, or my truth. I said you mostly likely had some sort of bipolar diagnosis." My jaw felt like it fell to the table due to his bluntness. "My experience with you was not cute deer in trouble. It was more like grouchy witch ready to bite my head off." What? Liz would never do that. "In fair honesty, Isaac, she meets charming awesome me, and then in lunch she sees you and thinks it's me. If she said hi and you gave her the cold shoulder it's normal for people to become upset." Ashton butts in. I wish I would have seen the look on Liz's face when she realized what happened. Wonder what she said to the guy when she thought her trust was being hurt. "Well I was hurt, I thought it was insane that in the morning you were so kind and helpful and later along you were acting like you didn't know me." I defended. Probably what happened knowing Liz. Guys burst up laughing and the girls gave me short smiles of comfort. Once the guys settled back in after Ashton composed and told them all it was enough and not to laugh at me. Isaac spoke up. "I know. I realized that in the next period during role call they said my name." He chuckles before finishing. "I was freaked when I turned to see you were bainging your head on the table and murmurring to yourself." He lost it again and went into another laughing fit. This time everyone followed along even me. I just couldn't picture Liz doing that. I get it now. "I'm sorry it was so weird for you, I definitely sound crazy from that perspective." Still trying to catch some air. "I was so embarrassed, that's when it hit me that morning Ashton and lunch Ashton were actually two different people and it was normal for you to ask like I was a stranger because, well, I was." Another laughing fit around the table. Lunch was fun I got a text from Liz checking in on me. I used to let her know I met Ashton and Isaac along with their friends. The rest of the day went by great. It was only one day but I liked this school more than mine hopefully a space opens up fast. At the end of the day I went straight to the gym to change into our old team wear for the tryouts. Went out met the team, other applicants and coach Torres who is also the gym teacher. "All right ladies." She yelled out. "Listen up, you will do 3 tests and only the best will be on the team I will be choosing 3 of you to join this year." She continued while walking in front of us for a chance to see if we passed the unspoken of test. If she really is looking for the best be actually have 4 tests the first is her judgement of us at this meet. Followed by the resistance for training and long practice. Speed, not for running but to see how fast you can react in the game. And last but not least team work, how well do you perform and communicate with others. The tests went by pretty fast. I hope I'm up to expectations. "I wish I could say this was a hard decision to make." Coach Torres starts."You all did great on the drills for quick reaction and resistance, no hard feelings there." She proceeds. "But this is a team sport and when it came to that only two of you complied to inform and talk to your team and one followed along and did as told. The rest of you did not even try to listen." With that I knew I was in, or well Liz was in the team. "You three, come up front, the rest can leave." She pointed at me and the 2 girls on my side. "Practice starts the day after Tomorrow and from there every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Be prepared to give it your best don't make me regret my decision." "Yes ma'am, thank you." It sounded like we had practiced to speak at once. We were dismissed. "I knew you would make it, Liz." Amelia said coming out of the locker room with bag in one hand and her sparkly water bottle in the other. "Thank you, it was good competition." By the time we got to the parking lot dad was parked waiting for me. "Oh my dad is here, see you tomorrow." I gave her a small side hug. "My car is that way too, I'll come with and say hi to your dad." As we got closer to the car I noticed someone in the back, uh-oh. Liz. I went up to the car opened the backdoor and quickly said, "she's on the volleyball team." Liz nodded so I opened the door more for Amelia to see. "Amelia, this is my dad and this is my sister Beth." She went to dad first. "Evening, sir, my name is Amelia." "Hi Amelia, nice to meet you." Dad saluted with a raise of his hand. "Hi Beth." She started still not fully moving her gaze from dad."You're twins." Amelia looked shocked at first then she started laughing. "It makes even less sense to have gotten so upset with Isaac. Sorry, But did she tell you what happened yesterday?" "Yeah I know, almost like I was there." "The irony." She catches her breath. "Do the guys know?" "They know I have a sister, but they don't know we are twins yet" "Ah I see don't worry then it will be between us." "Thank you." Liz replies from inside the car. "Well see you tomorrow." I get in the car and stretch over to peck dad in the cheek. "How was work? "Oh the usual people trying to lie to get a good case, you know." He knows. "How?" "We went to the doctor to get my ankle checked properly and instead of saying Beth I said Liz when the doctor asked my name." She replies sheepishly. "In my defense Mon and Dad knew and just wanted to confirm. So not really my fault." I chuckle. "Oh Liz." "So? Did we make the team?" Dad glanced at us from the rearview mirror. "Liz, how do I say it?" "Oh mija," "Practice starts on Thursday and it is every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday." "You scared me. You were gonna be grounded and not even make it on the team." Says dad with a smirk.
