CHAPTER 67
A sudden stillness swept the cavern. Silence held the cavern like an iron vice-like grip.
General Cade had barely moved a reasonable distance when a gust of wind slammed into his side with an unnatural force. He staggered and lost balance but held onto the herb. Clutching it protectively to his chest. However, the pressure intensified.
“You seem to have forgotten your place, Cade. Do you think you have a choice?” the emperor whispered, though his words echoed like thunder in the cavern. His voice was layered like something else spoke along with him. It carried a resonance—it was not his own. It was like something else spoke with him—through him.
Cade looked up with narrowed eyes. “You are not the man I pledged allegiance to. You’re not him. Not anymore.”
