I excused myself so that my mother and father could have a slight talk with Thomas, now that he was more than just my friend from work. I was trying to keep from checking my phone due to the fact that I probably had a few emails from Mr. Johnson inquiring to my answer on the added work prospect. Though I would enjoy doing tours I wasn’t sure how I would actually do talking to people I didn’t know personally. There was a message from Hugh, which was rather odd, seeing as he never sends me any.
Hello dear. I’m letting you know that the request your mother sent for all of the swords to be moved off the display floor went through so that there was no trouble for anyone should those items not be where they were the last time they were seen. I went and checked on the items again and they were back on their displays. I thought that you should also know that Mr. Johnson is no longer working at the museum due to the fact that he has gone missing from work for the past few days. And the head of the museum has been asking for you to come into his office when you have returned from your trip to see your parents. I hope you were able to find Thomas and are bringing him back in one piece and not like Osiris, just some Ancient Egyptian humor for you!
As always, your friendly security guard,
Hugh.
That was a rather sweet message he decided to send me. And now I was wondering why the head of the museum would want to see me. Usually there was only two reasons why you were called to the head office, one was a promotion and the other was to be let go. I only hoped it wasn’t the latter. I was just getting ready to leave the room when I felt a pair of wings tickle my shoulder. I turned around and the Goddess Isis there smiling at me. I was so glad she was there that I ran to her and gave her a hug while I broke down crying. I had known since the first nightmare happened that there was more to them than I knew, but I never wanted to admit it to myself. I stayed tucked into her for a short while and when I was all cried out, she gave me a smile and gave me a kiss on the top of my head. As she faded out, I could have sworn I heard he say that she was proud of the daughter of her people I had become.
“So how long are you two going to stay with us here honey?” my father asked. He was snuggled into the couch with my mother and I couldn’t help but smile at the love that those two have always had for each other.
“I don’t want to take too much more time away from you dig time. I know you only have a short window during the warmer months, and I’ve already been here a few days. I know you stayed at the house to keep an eye on me. We should be leaving either tomorrow or the day after.” I answered my father back.
“That’s a shame. Thomas looks like he would like to actually see some of the places you spent when you were a child while we were here. And I’m sure you could show him all of the vendors around here that always gave you free candy while we were working!” my mother said with a small giggle of her own and a knowing smile.
“Why do you always have to bring up the fact that I happen to be the only one with a sweet tooth in this family?! I know you and dad like a few sweets, but I know you two also like the taffy that I found here when I was little. So, don’t think I won’t show Thomas all of my favorite vendors tomorrow while you two are at your dig!” I said while sticking my tongue out at my mother and father.
The next day my parents went to their dig and Thomas and I went to walk around and see all of the vendors. I know I had gone to see a few of them just a day ago, but they were all happy to see me again after so many years of me being gone. I was also stopped many times and asked if Thomas was more than just my friend. Thankfully Thomas had no idea what I was being asked each time, though he started to catch on by the fifth time I was asked. I had to tell a few of my “Aunts” that Thomas was starting to catch on to what was being asked and to let the other ones know what was going on.
“I’m happy that you showed me to your “Aunts”, though I think some of them kept asking if I was your fiancé, though that may not actually be what they asked me. But I did manage to find something for you while you were getting that candy you love so much.” chuckled Thomas as he pulled out a small leather bag from his back pocket. I had a feeling that the bag was on the bigger side so I think I was safe to say that it wasn’t going to be a ring that he gave me.
“And before you go all anxious on me this doesn’t contain a ring, but it does have a necklace in it. I noticed that the one that you usually wear was broken and this one just seemed to call to me that it should be yours.” he said with a chuckle and a small blush on his face.
I took the bag and opened it to find a small chain with a set of wings on it, and not just any wings, but a smaller set of the Goddess Isis’ wings! I threw my arms around Thomas’ neck and gave him a huge kiss and a hug. I turned around so he could help me put the necklace on and walked into the house with a huge smile on my face.
“So, it seems you went to see the vendors after all honey. And isn’t that a nice necklace.” said my father when we walked into the front door.
“Yes, we did dad. And all of the “Aunts” asked if Thomas was more than a friend, though he did catch on after the fifth time I was asked. And truth be told he was rather close when he asked if they thought he was my fiancé.” I giggled while Thomas was blushing up a small storm.
