We decided to stay an extra day to go and see the site that my parents had been working at. We left with them and I had warned Thomas thy they might try to put him to work since he works in the preservation floor with me, but if he didn’t feel like he wanted to then he could tell them no. I was trying to keep my mother from giggling in the front seat. We made it to the dig site in a little over two hours.
As soon as I got out of the car at the site, I was swarmed by the family that helped us out. I was trying to get out of the tight hugs from everyone when I heard Thomas laughing at me. I threw him a questioning look, but he just shook his head at me. I told all of them I would come down and work with them after I had a chance to see what my mother and father had found so far. They all knew that I couldn’t stay away from the finds tent and went back to the areas they had been at before I got there.
“Well if it isn’t my favorite little assistant back from across the sea! It’s been too long since the last time you were here my sweet!” joked Mikeal as he came out to give me a hug. I was so happy to see that he was still helping my parents out with their sites. I knew that if he wasn’t here to tell them to go get some rest that they would work for almost three days straight. I had actually seen them do that on too many days.
“It’s good to be back here Mikeal. I was happy to see you in this tent and not someone else who wouldn’t know when to tell my parents to go get some sleep.” I giggles as I pulled Thomas closer to me so that I could introduce the two best men in my life to each other who weren’t my father.
“So you are the man that has all of the “Aunts” in town clucking like chickens about our little Rebecca. And if your hand shake has anything to say about the work you do I would have to guess that you work with our little sweet on a preservation floor.” smiled Mikeal
“That is very true, though Rebecca is the one that actually gets most of the items taken care of. I just have a few of the smaller items that I work on. Though she somehow manages to get more items done when no one is there to see her.” Thomas said while smiling at both of us. “But it does look like you do have a few more items here than you can handle. Do you mind if I help you out with a few of them? This way you don’t have to drag me around the site and you can go see the rest of the swarm.” chuckled Thomas as he walked over to one of the fuller tables to get back into the part of the job that he liked.
“Well if you are sure you actually want to help. Then I guess I can’t keep the rest of that swarm waiting any longer. I will come back and get you guys when it is lunch time okay?” I said as I was waived off by the guys. I started walking down into the site and the youngest of the family there decided to pull me over with them to see what they had found. I was surprised to see that the house was the one from my first nightmare. The room that the younger ones were working in was the room that I always woke up in. The walls were only the outside edge of the farthest corner, but I knew exactly where I was.
I walked halfway into the room and yelled for a spade, a brush and a bucket. I sat down and started to work in the area that had been the edge of the bed where I had first woken up. I knew I had fallen asleep with a few small items I had gotten from my parents on the morning of that day and had set them on a small table before I had passed out all the way. I didn’t remember grabbing them when I left to get my parents. I was going at it like my parents usually did at a site and didn’t even stop for anything to eat.
I jumped out of the whole I was sitting in when Thomas put his hand on my arm, “I thought you were going to be the one to come get us for break and not the other was around?!” stated Thomas.
“I’m sorry Thomas, I just got so lost in what I was doing that I guess I didn’t hear the whistle go off for the break.” I said with a little flush on my face from all the work I had been doing.
“So, do you want to tell me what all you were doing while we go get a drink and a small bite?” asked Thomas. I set my tools down and dusted myself off so that we could go and get a few bites. I explained that the site we are in now happened to be the outskirts of Memphis. And the house was the one from my first nightmare that started when I was back in University. I didn’t want to get too deep into my past to scare Thomas off and thankfully he didn’t pressure me for too much information after that.
We sat for a bit and soon I wanted to get back to my work. He said that Mikeal wanted him to come back so that they could clean more of the items that had just been brought in. I gave him a small kiss and headed back to my little whole in the dirt to keep seeing if I could find my old items.
I was only cleaning off the last few layers of dirt when I felt that lovely little metal ting that only comes when you find something. I switched to my brush to clean off the last of the dirt and the arm wrap, two rings and golden head piece that I had set there stared up at we as if it was just yesterday that I had placed them there. I yelled for my mother and father to come to my site, and not only did they show up, but Thomas and Mikeal did as well.
“Oh my gosh sweetheart! Are these what we have been looking for the whole time we have been on this site?” asked my mother with a slight gasp.
I didn’t trust my words and just nodded my head. I was so shocked that they were back in my hands again that I wanted to get them cleaned off as quickly as I could. I ran from my little site and straight to the found tent. I was working on cleaning the dirt off of the first ring that I had pulled out that I didn’t even hear the footsteps until there was someone standing just next to my hip.
“I am happy to see that the daughter of this land has finally gotten her items back. And that the wicked man that took you away is finally where he should have been the first time around.” said a voice that I didn’t know, but the feeling that this person gave off just seemed to be one that I had met before.
