I managed to make it back to my place for the night with that feeling having gone away by about the second block I had gone from the museum. I decided that the next day being my normal day off I would go and actually walk around the museum in the Egypt wing and see how he was able to find me after all of these years. That night I was tossing and turning and didn’t get as much sleep as I wanted to, but at least there weren’t any memories that came across while I was asleep, there was just this feeling of something sitting on my bed while I was in it.
By the time that I woke up to go to the museum the next morning the feeling had gotten a little better, but it was still slightly there. I got back on the bus to get to my destination having left my car at work the night before. As the bus was heading back to the museum and the feeling of being watched was coming back, the closer we got the stronger the feeling became. I was sure it was just one of the normal museum patrons that was watching me on the bus ride. When I got in the museum, I was able to go back to the exhibits to have a look at them without too much issue from the staff. The Egypt exhibit was exactly like I thought it would look! The house that we had been cleaning out was in fact the one from my memories. Though as I got closer the feeling got worse.
I was looking at all of the items that were out for everyone to see I could hear the sound of footsteps coming into the exhibit. I was about to turn around and greet the person who had come to look at the items I had helped clean, but as soon as I saw the person’s face, I let out a small scream.
“Well, if it isn’t the wife that I thought I had killed with that little house fire alive and well after all these years.” Said Imenand with a rather sadistic smile on his face.
“I thought you had been eaten when you died. Or rather I had hoped that would be what happened to you after what you did to me that night many years ago .” I said.
“I made a deal with Anubis to become immortal, and I have actually been the one that has followed you all this time. You haven’t been able to get away from me since that first time you died!” He explained with glee.
“How do you explain that I have seen a different person from both Egypt and Greece? You look nothing like either of them. There is no way that you could have been both of those men from my nightmares. There is no way that you are both of them.” I stated in a confused manner.
“There is a way that I could be both of those men my little pet. When I made my deal I was able to change the way that I looked so that you would seem to fall in love with me, but I found out in Greece that I was mistaken on the type of man that your heart truly wants my love. Though that is not a mistake that I made again.” He answered back with hatred in his voice.
“And what type of man do you think my heart wants? And I am not nor have I ever been your love or pet. The only thing you ever treated me as was a trophy to be on your arm for the way that I looked during those times in my life.” I shot back at him with malice in my voice.
“That is something I have managed to find out from the other times I have come to look after you my little pet, but I shall not spoil your surprise just yet.” He laughed while he left.
“What do you mean other times?” I yelled at his back as he walked away from me.
“That is just something you will have to figure out for your sell my little pet. Until then I will be around just to make sure you don’t forget about me.” He laughed again at my question that I had asked of him.
In truth when I watched his back leave through the doorway, I wished that I had the blade that he had used on me in my hands to repay the favor of what he did to me. I was thankful that it wasn’t thought because that would be hard to explain to my boss as to why I had it.
The air in the Egyptian exhibit had all of a sudden become too cold for me to stand being in there for too much longer. I had started to shake a little when one of the gentlemen who usually walks the halls came into the exhibit hall.
“Are you all right Miss? You seem as though someone has walked across your grave right now?” He asked with a sweet smile on his face in concern for me.
“I’m alright Hugh, I just got cold all of a sudden in the exhibit. Thank you for coming to check on me though. You are always the sweetest when it comes to checking in on me.” I smiled back at him. “I think I’ll take a look around just to look at the other stuff that was here before I got here Hugh.”
“Well if you need anything Miss feel free to let me know! Us late night owls need to stick together!” Replied Hugh with a chuckle.
I smiled to myself as Hugh left the exhibit hall to make his normal rounds. He had been the first friend that I had made at the museum when I first started here. He would always come and check on me if I was working late and would always want to know the history that I somehow knew about the item I was working on. Most nights when it was just me left, he would come and keep me company just so I didn’t feel all alone in the museum. After most nights he would walk me to my car just to make sure I was safe. Though on the off nights that he wasn’t there I would stay till almost the next morning trying to work on an item. There had been times that I was still in the same clothes from the night before having not left.
