Isobel folded away the letter as Connor attendants announced the queen’s imminent arrival. She searched the parlor for Seth and found him near the fireplace alcove. He sensed her approach and rose from his conversation with Calum and the new Iverach delegate, Mattean Devereaux.
“—wild claims of a Firstborn criminal.”
Calum’s tirade reached her ears, even hushed as it was. His refusal to accept the truth of her mixed blood had never wavered. She and Seth had agreed to avoid the subject around her brother.
Seth intercepted her, cutting short Calum’s rant, and Rachel made a timely retrieval of her husband.
“What set him off?”
“Mattean suggested we invite the Firstborn to join the resistance.”
