Evan's POV
I chuckled amusedly to myself as I remembered how Anaya tried to buy me with her money. The more I thought about it, the more complicated it appeared to me. It felt like she was trying to buy me with her money and on the other hand, she was trying to desperately repay me for helping her out.
Whichever it was haunted me because I wanted to get her off my mind but I couldn't, her smiling face kept replaying in my head and my murderous intent towards the men who tried to harm her was still lit.
I sighed as I got to where my car was parked and got in, the engine revved loudly as it refused to come to life.
‘Maybe I should've taken that money after all.’ I muttered jokingly to myself and laughed at my own joke.
Being a gynecologist made me gain little respect in the daring world and I didn't earn much but it was enough to live decently. My head was banging from the hit and it resulted in a headache. I popped two pills of painkillers in my mouth and downed it with a bottle of water from the stash I had in my car.
I rested my head on the steering wheel, giving the medications time to kick-start its action.
Darkness illuminated by shining moonlight in the starry night sky got thickened by the smoke rising to the heavens. Silence was all that resonated through the vast land, a painfully excruciating silence that pierced through the thickest of walls and boundaries.
Then it all exploded, everything pouring out at once, the voices blaring with a high frequency with a dangerously high rush of adrenaline. Shrieks of pain, agony and deathly cries rented the skies.
‘ Soldier, advance forward! Alpha two protect the base! Go! Go!! Go!!! Advance! Enemy around!’
‘Fire!!’
‘Take aim and shoot! For honor and for our country!’
Bullets wheezing past with the stench of blood purifying the air itself, flesh flying around and bodies popping like balloons with raindrops of internal organs.
‘Soldier! What are you doing? Ludwig, get the hell out of that landmine!’
Having stepped on a motion-sensitive bomb while my commander frantically waved his hand for me to leave, my sweat mixed with blood trickled down my face and then a resonating blast was heard.
The headache was gone but I still felt uncomfortable. I searched for my pills and took them. I heaved a sigh and put on my seatbelt, this time; my car started with no problem and I headed home.
Following my crazy encounters for the day and remembrance of the ugly past, I decided to just spend the rest of the day with my family before heading for work the next day not knowing that a surprise awaited me.
“Mom! I'm home.” I announced loudly right after I parked the car and walked into the house.
Hearing no response, I proceeded into the living room and saw my mom and little sister there, they were dressed ceremoniously.
“What's going on Mom?” I asked confusedly.
She hurriedly hugged me and straightened my shirt.
“Mom's got you a date, she's in the dining room as we speak, you'll like her.” Mica; my sister revealed.
I frowned. “Mom…”
“What? You want to die single?” She retorted.
“I've told you not to.” I argued.
“Just this once uhn? She's my friend's daughter.” She begged then took me by my arm before I could protest any longer and dragged me to the dining room to meet my date.
“Hi, I'm sorry i'm late for dinner.” I said to the supposed date and when she turned to face me and I was shocked.
“You're here?” She asked, her ugly frown still settling on her face, the girl from the date earlier.
“Keisha?” I asked, startled.
She scoffed and flipped her hair once again, displaying her manicured hands.
“Are you stalking me now you p*****t?” She asked disrespectfully.
She snickered. “You don't know when to give up do you? You think I'll talk to someone like you? Didn't I make it clear earlier? You can never score a girl like me, know when to give up.”
She then turned to face my Mom. “You boasted of your son so much and this is him? The person you want me to date?” She barked.
“What's wrong with him dear? Have you both met befor-”
“Of course we have! He's your worthless, broke son? What do you take me for? A lowlife like you?” Keisha scoffed, interrupting my mom. “My Mom surely makes me undergo an unnecessary process with the likes of you.”
“That's enough Keisha.” I informed her.
“You want a relationship with me? You need to be wealthy, can you afford my expenses? I need a luxurious car, designer shoes and clothes, a condo of my own and paid trips and vacations, can you even afford a dishwasher with your current status? You look like you'd die of malnutrition real soon.” She insulted even further.
“Your mother looks like she's a maid in-”
I lost my temper and banged my fist on the table. “Don't overdo it. I do not have any of those vain things you mention and will not do what it takes to give them to you so leave if you want to!” I barked at her.
She scoffed. “You can only get a beautiful woman like me with money and a luxurious gift, no woman would ever stay with a wretched man like you.”
“No man would stay under the same roof with an arrogant, self praising, ugly, pungent, contentious and secondhand woman like you!” I retorted, no one insults my mother and goes scot-free.
“You and your mother can find some immigrant with no self-respect and class as a wife for you but I'll never stoop so low as-”
“I'd rather be castrated than see myself with the likes of you as well.”
“No woman will ever love a man like you.”
“We'll see about that when you-”
I was interrupted by that constant annoying ringing of thr doorbell. Mica went to get the door and I could vaguely hear her argue with someone, eventually, the person came in and I was shocked to see a young beautiful woman.
“Good evening, I have a package for Mr Ludwig.” The woman said. Two other men walked in right after her. They carried packages with a designer wrapping sheet wound around it. My eyes widened in shock.
“Who are you?” I asked.
A woman stepped out from behind them and I could hear everyone else gasp except me.
“An-an-anaya Macalister!” Keisha screamed in shock.
“I believe I'm looking for you Evans. Hi, shall we continue from where paused on our date? You left in a hurry so I thought I'd ask why.”
