Chapter Two: Saving Anaya

1300 Words
Evan’s POV “I give you my word Evans, you'd never regret going on this date, just trust me on this please?” I recalled what Caspian said to me for the umpteenth time. “I've been on several others and the results are same, if course I'll go to this one to prove you wrong.” I had replied to him that evening right before I collected that lady's contact from him. The next day, I proceeded to our rendezvous; a homely cafe in that heart of the city and according to her specifications I saw her the moment I walked in. She was on a phone call and the way her lips moved effortlessly and her celestial beauty radiating from the accentuation of the white dress she wore encapsulated my attention and focused it on just her. I was mesmerized and thought to myself ‘maybe Caspian was right, I truly wouldn't regret this’. So, I approached her, aimed at maximizing this beautiful opportunity. She was as graceful as a swan and spoke softly. Though she was a bit hostile and indifferent at first, I still found her tone melodious and captivating, everything was going on just well or so I thought until she decided to drop the bombshell. I was flustered and embarrassed by this revelation as she looked calm and ordinary but her aura was heavenly. I sighted my ‘initial’ date from across the room and she waved at me. Forcing a smile, I decided to give it a chance knowing fully well that Anaya has been indexed in my memory. “Hi.” I greeted politely as I got to the table. Across me was a beautiful girl with loads of makeup plastered on her face while gave her a glow. She smiled weakly at me and offered me a seat. “I thought you wouldn't show up.” She said, monotonously. I chuckled softly. “Of course not, I wouldn't dare stand-up a pretty girl like you. What will you be having? Shall we place an order?” She frowned slightly and reluctantly picked up thr menu then proceeded to order the most ridiculously expensive combo on the menu, not that I couldn't afford it but it was a bit unnecessary and extra. I ordered a plain pumpkin spice latte and biscuits to go with. “So, Caspian tells me you're an health practitioner.” She started, curiously. “Well, I'm Evans Ludwig for a start.” I stated, jokingly but she gave me a ghost of a smile. “I believe that was in thr description.” She retorted. “Yes.” I affirmed, smiling widely. “I'm a gynecologist.” She flared her nostrils and snorted. “Isn't that a fancy name for a p*****t?” I was flabbergasted. “Excuse me?” She snickered quite loudly and rolled her eyeballs. “That's a lot of myth going on but I can assure you, I'm not a pervert.” I said jokingly, hoping to ease the tension it she only frowned more. “First you show up late to a date and then you're trying to deny your status, disgusting!” She insulted. “I'm sorry I took longer than-” “This is how you treat your so-called patients uhn? By being irresponsible and late? How much do you earn in a year? Tell me.” She interjected. “I'm not sure I underst-” “Pathetic, you earn less than the amount required for my skincare, you feed off those poor women with no one else to run to for their deteriorating health issues and you don't even have a handsome face. Why have you decided to waste your life on such a petty thing and to think you had the audacity to approach me, you can only be in my life by being rich and well to do, you know; for someone your age you should be pretty ashamed of the lowclass life you life, so berating!” She insulted quite loudly. “Will you please lower your voice, I'm sure you're mistaken and-” I tried placating her since everyone was now looking at us, she was drawing unnecessary attention. I tried to touch her hand, to clam her down but she flinched and abruptly rose to her feet, She flipped her hair and poured a glass of water on my face. “Change your class, occupation and breath before ever approaching me you poverty-stricken late dumbass!” She exclaimed loudly then began to walk away. She stopped midway to address me. “Never ever reach out to me again or call my number else you'll rot in jail for the rest of your life.” She spat viciously before finally leaving me to the glaring stares of everyone. My face was red with embarrassment, my shirt soaked with water and I had no date. It was as if my day was jinxed. I quietly paid the bill and made my way outside, igboring all the vicious murmurs of those around me. My car was parked just around the block and I smiled bitterly, hands in pocket, head lowered, I walked as fast as I could but as I took a sharp turn; I heard a familiar voice scream out. “Get away from me you morons!” I wouldn't forget the voice in a heartbeat, instantly; I looked up to see the pretty lady being rough handled by some thugs, she was frantically throwing her hands at them while one of the men managed to carry her on his shoulders. “Hey!” I screamed, gaining their attention. “Let go of her!” I barked. “Mind your business and get lost b***h!” One of the men swore at me. I looked at Anaya and she seems surprised to see me as well, her ocean blue eyes were teary and I could see that she was scared. “Don't worry Miss Macalister, I'll take care of them.” I assured her, smiling widely. “Call the Police!” She advised me, panicking. “I'll rather call an ambulance, the Police are busy filing cases.” I joked but she didn't smile a bit, she was still shaken. “Let go of me you bastard!” She demanded as she hit the man with her feeble hands while he didn't flinch. “You heard the lady, let her go while I'm still being nice to you.” “What are you? Some hero? Don't be stupid man, just leave.” “Hand over the lady to me and I'll be on my way.” “How about you come take her yourself?” I fished out my phone from my pocket and dialed 911, informing them there was an emergency. I scoffed, removed my shoe and threw it at him. The one who carried her motioned to the other men to take care of me. I charged at them and using my most basic self-defense skill, all of them were writhing on the ground in less than a minute leaving their leader stricken with awe and shock. His lips quavered and so did Anaya, in the blink of an eye, I had my sleeves rolled up and my tattoo became evident. I approached the last man cautiously. “Let her go.” I growled. He let her down and brought out a gun, pointing it at me. I delivered a flying kick to his groin and snatched the gun from his hand before he crashed into the nearby trashcan. “Behind you!” She yelled out in horror but it was too late as I felt a blow to my head from behind, blood seeped from the cut and I staggered, my vision becoming blurry.
