38 - Hugo POV

1283 Words
Well... I knew these two would be bringing trouble the moment they got here, what I didn't expect was how quickly that trouble would find us. I am going to be in trouble for this. I can hear Alvarez's voice scolding me on hoe I should not have taken them back to Gabe's apartment or how would I have been so stupid to not realise that the flat would have been monitored by whomever. These thoughts rattled in my head as we drove to the meeting spot Alvarez had set us - a safehouse on the outskirts of the city. We had managed to get back to my car once we knew the coast was clear and the... dust that Jenna had sent through the listening device had scared away our pest problem. It wasn't a long commute from Gabe's place to the meeting spot. It was more the sight before me that sent my heart sinking into my stomach. Alvarez, standing in front of the building, with a host of other vampires behind him - his honour guard. I couldn't help but gulp down the lump that had formed in my throat. "Who's that?" Gabe commented as he pointed at the obvious gathering that was in front of us whilst the car came to a stand still. Jenna just smiles giddily as she jumps out of the car. "That is our host." She skips towards Alverez, who manages to plaster a smile on his face as she comes up to him; myself and Gabe trudge along after her, wary of the company he had around him. "A pleasure to meet you in person, my lady." He scoops up her hand a plants a kiss on her knuckles, holding her gaze as you could see her go bright red. "Why, Alvarez. You are such a charmer." She playfully swats at him. Jeez, you two. Get a room. "My men inform me that you had a spot of bother upon your arrival into the city." His eyes narrow at me as he finished his sentence. How does he know that information already? That happened half an hour ago. "Oh, nothing I could not handle. It will take a lot more to defeat me." She continues to giggle as she draws his attention back towards her. "You don't need to worry about me." He gives the hand he was still holding a little pat before he speaks. "Just making sure that our deal remains in tack. We do need each other to deal with the rodant infestation." He holds his arm out to her so that she could intertwine it with her arm. "Shall we head inside? Have a bit of privacy?" "Why, you are a charmer." She clings to him. It was like watching a couple on a date. Would that make Gabe and I the third and fourth wheel? We follow on after them. The guards watching us like hawks as we briskly breeze past them. "So, how is our local wolf pack these days? Hugo filled us in on some parts but I want more." Jenna states as she flops dowm on the sofa. "Too big - they have been since the war with Blood Moon." Alvarez comments as he sits opposite her. Everyone else seems to form a circle around the two of them as their exchange continues. "With their drastic increase in numbers, those goody two shoes have been driving out business." "But the leadership is weak at the moment, yes?" "Yes, they were attacked by Hunters. Still not a lot of word from the pack but people have spotted the members out and about." "Like Abby?" Gabe piped up. All eyes immediately fixed on him - brave man for speaking when not spoken to. You can tell that interjection irked Alvarez, but he masked it behind a tight smile. "Yes... with a flatter stomach." "She gave birth? It would be too soon." Again, Gabe spoke. I would tell him to be quiet but then I would be in the firing line. Did not want to get into more trouble than I already was. "It appears she has, but again, no one has heard anything. My men just saw her go into work today and leave. If the pup has been born, it would be in a weak state so will be in the hospital." "So, when we enact our plan, we could target the pup to draw people away from the true target." Jenna draws everyone's focus back to her. "We need to make a grab for Colt." She said as if that was the simplest task in the world. "Just him?" "Yeah. He is the Alpha. Take out the Alpha and then the whole system is in uproar - the wolves become easy pickings." She just smiled as she sat back in her chair. "They have a strong alliance with the newly formed McGraw Coven." Alvarez lights a cigar and inhales on it sharply, letting the smoke fill the air as he exhales. "If you can have enough vamps to distract them, then that is all we need. Plus, I still have some of my friends which can keep the witches and wizards busy." She opens her bag to display the vials thst were carelessly rolling around inside - there had to be nearly two dozen vials in there. "Do I need to ask what they are?" He asks as he takes another drag from his cigar. "Just my equivalent to your men in this room." She gestures to the circle that surrounded her. "When do we attack?" "Soon as possible." "That keen." I feel like these two could were going to be a danger couple with how much they wanted to take out the wolves. I just hope that my Talia does not get stuck in the middle of this. "They will still be recovering from the attack; it has to have been bad if there is no news. So, attack them whilst they are recovering and then we move onto the next phase." "Which is?" "One phase at a time." Jenna smiled coyly at Alvarez as she leant forward in her chair. "Just know that it will need to take place in the next day or two since trying to hold an Alpha hostage is difficult." "Fair enough." Alvarez blunts the end of his cigar to put it out in the ash tray before rising to his feet. "Is there anything else?" "I need a cave far away from here to hold him." That was an odd request, and I was not the only one to think that as everyone else looked puzzle to. We let Alvarez break the silence of the group. "Why?" "We need him far away from here so it would be harder for anyone to find him. Plus, a cave is an ideal place to perform my magic." He just rolls his eyes and lets out a heavy sigh; I think he is now realising how annoying this lady is. "Fine, I have a contact in Snowdonia - they should be able to find something." "Great!" Jenna bolts upright and looks at the group. "Who is ready to take on some wolves then?" "You want to go now?" I finally broke silence, but I couldn't help blurting out my sentence. "Uhh yeah, like I said, they are still recovering so the sooner the better." She folds her arms and looks at us. We all just turn back to Alvarez. He just waves a hand over his shoulder as he heads towards the kitchen. "Summon the fighters and get going." Oh boy, looks like I would be in for a fight tonight.
