I cannot believe it.
After a few months, I was here. I was back in Nottingham. The place that was my home. The place that was my safe space.
The place that shunned me because of who I fell in love with.
A shiver tingles down my spine as we drove past that welcomed me home.
How could a place that had so many happy memories feel so hollow now? Not even driving through the familiar streets provided me with any solace.
"Where are we heading?" Jenna whinges as she squirmed in the front passenger seat. She had been complaining all car ride as well as the plane ride over, wanting to have travelled in luxury since we were 'being catered for'. The only distraction we had from the whinging was ehen my features began to revert back so I looked like me again.
"Figured Gabe would need to grab a few things from his place before we headed out to the safe house." Hugo gruffly responded. He seemed pretty cool - if it wasn't for Jenna loitering about, I think I would be enjoying this road trip a bit more. And, with how Hugo had been speaking to Jenna, I think he would agree.
"Are we able to go back to Xavier's..." I hoped that we could. "I am hoping that maybe I could collect some of his personal belongings... to remember him by."
Whilst that was the main reason as to why I wanted his possessions, that was not the only reason why I brought it up.
Jenna had gone over the plan with me, explaining to me how we would be bringing Xavier back to life. We needed something with his DNA on it in order to perform the ritual.
Once we had that, we could then bring back his essence by summoning it within a pentogram. Then, we would need a sacrifice so that the body of the victim could be used as a vessel for Xavier.
However, we could not relay this information to Hugo just yet. We had to see how trust worthy he was first. He seemed legitimate, but who was to tell where his interests truly lie.
So, we kept that between the two of us for the time being.
"Unfortunately not." Hugo looked at me with sympathy. "White Crescent have taken over that place so now it is their packhouse."
THAT b***h!
As if her and her precious mate and his ridiculous pack taking my mate from me wasn't far enough, but now they had to make sure every last bit of his memory was wiped from the face of the Earth.
My fists clench at my side as I thump the car seat. "I swear, I will have my revenge on them. For Xavier, and everyone else they have wronged."
"You may not have to." What does he mean by that? "The pack was attacked about a week ago, at the packhouse, by a massive horde of Hunters."
Now that is news I wanted to hear.
"How badly were they hit?" My curiosity had well and truly peaked.
"No one knows, but the pack has been very quiet lately which means they have suffered heavily."
"That improves our odds here then." Jenna comments as we pull up near my flat. We walked down the street before turning into my flat, using the spare key to let myself in.
Studying over my flat, it looked like I had never even left - everything was precisely where I had left it. How time has seemed to have froze on this place.
"Well this is... quaint." She had to ruin my mini moment, didn't she. Hugo just gave me a sympathetic look as he stood leaned up against the doorframe.
Heading to my room, I grab my travel bag and start shoving a load of clothes in as fast as I could. I did not want to stick around and find out if we were to be having any unwanted visitors here.
I knew my place would be a hot spot for a fugitive, but it is also the best place for me to get easy supplies rather than heading to the streets to purchase items.
Once I had finished packing, I walk about out into the living area to see Jenna stockpiling on all my canned goods and anything else that had not perished in the months that I had been away.
"We nearly ready?" Hugo looks between the two of us.
"Just a few more things. Got to pack all we can before we can act."Jenna responds as she uses every bag for life I have.
"Why do you want to take out the wolves so badly?" He turns to Jenna.
"Bad for business - they took one of my best clients from me." I just coldly glared at the back of her head. That sentence hit a nerve as I knew she was talking about Xavier.
"You?" She looked back at Hugo.
"Two reasons - my boss told me to take care of you two and my mate is at their pack."
"Why are they there?"
"She was taken from me and then they forced the mate's mark on her. I am sure of it. I can feel it." You could see the red flashes in his eyes as he spoke about it.
"So, we all have a reason to hate them."
"Yes." He looks to me. "Our agendas align. You help me get back at my mate and I help you get revenge on White Crescent."
"Perfect. We will need a plan of action before we decide to get rid of them." Jenna comments as one of the tin cans fall on the floor.
She grabs it off of the floor. As she was rising, she pauses mid rise and stairs under the counter.
"Jenn-"
"Shush!" She glares at us as she pulls upright, holding a very small black box in the palm of her hand; a small red light flickers intermittently as we all glare at it.
She looks at the two of us. Putting a finger over her mouth she rummages through her bag. "Right, we are all done here then." She comments as she starts grabbing a few of the vials of powdered dead humans.
Emptying a few of them on top of the device so that the remains fall into the cracks, she begins her chant.
"Efirts s'retsam ruoy tabmoc - niaga esira. Efil ot htaed dna htaed ot efil." The chant goes over and over again until every particular of every former skeleton had swirled into the air and seeped into the device.
She repeated it a few more times after the specks had disappeared and the light stops flickering.
"What is it?"
"Listening device." She crushes it in her hands as if it was nothing.
"Belonging to who?" She didn't need to answer - the sound of screeching tyres could be heard outside my window.
"Theirs." She glances out the window before turning back to me. "Congratulations, Gabe. Looks like we had a welcome party waiting for us."
