This was exactly what I wanted to avoid. How the hell was I supposed to explain this?
I could see the anger in Colt's eyes. Who could blame him - I was mounted on my bike next to the man that had been hunting our pack for God knows how long; which included wanting our own son dead.
You should talk to him, Abby. Artemis throws her weight into the conversation.
I know, Artemis. But that hasn't exactly been working for us lately. Need I remind her of our last conversations with Colt.
Colt folds his arms across his chest and begins to slowly tap his foot as I lift the visor on my helmet - we were now looking directly into each other's eyes as he seethed at me. "Explain yourself!"
"Do not take that tone with me! And keep your noise down!" I snap back at him.
"My tone?" He was really offended by that; not like I felt offended either. Get over it, Colt. "I think my tone is quite reasonable considering what I am witnessing."
"That may be but you have no right to talk to me in that manner." I held up my finger to my lips to him as well to remind him to keep it down. It was really important that we remained undetected, hence hiding in an alleyway in black biker gear, and Colt was ruining it.
He throws his head and hands up in annoyance before asking again. "Fine. Please, my dearest mate-" I let out a growl at that before he continued; I hated that sarcasm, especially right now. "-Please may you explain why you are on your bike, in an alleyway, with this murderer?" His finger shot out towards my father, just in case we were all confused as to who he was talking about.
"Pot, meet kettle." Dad raises his visor to give Colt a quick glance. I didn't need to see through his helmet to see how big and gleeful his smile was.
I hold up my hand to them both before turning to my father. "You. Keep an eye on the place. Let me speak to my mate."
"You two are pretty frosty for wolf mates, and that is coming from a Hunter." He goads one last time before turning his attention back to the building on the opposite side of the road.
My eyes raise to the sky. Why must I be stuck with the rock and the hard place?
That is not quite the saying.
Close enough, Artemis. Colt and dad are just the living representations of this.
My attention turns to Colt. It was only now that I had noticed Clarke standing behind him. I give him a small wave before greeting him. "Clarke. Good to see you. Maybe next time we meet under better circumstances."
"Good to see you too, Abby. And I agree, because I have a few questions of my own." He inclines his head towards me out of respect.
"I can explain everything."
"You need to." Colt huffs at me.
I jab a finger into his chest - he doesn't flinch; he just stares at it for a bit before looking at me, raising his eyebrows in the process. "Watch it, Colt."
He raised his chin whilst looking down at me, a slightly amused look crosses his eyes. He gave one quick nod - wanting to hear where this was going to go.
"Me and dad ar-"
"Dad?" Barely a few sentences in and Colt was already enraged. "Since when did you start calling him dad again? You said he was dead to you."
"In some ways, he still is." I give my father a side glance to see if he moved - he didn't. "This is a mutual agreement to achieve a common goal."
"Which is?"
"Scout out Gabe's flat." I point to the building across the road from us. The gentlemen followed my gazed, studying the building over. Probably trying to come up with their own verdicts.
Guess I will just continue then. "Gabe's flat is on the third floor. We have intel that he is back in the country."
"Is the intel reliable?" Clarke's turn to ask the questions.
"Yes."
"Where did the intel come from?" I just point a finger to the man on the bike next to me.
Colt just rolls his eyes again. "Why should you trust him?"
"My father wants revenge for the deaths of hunters in the States that were down to the dark witch Gabe is with. And I want Gabe. So yes, the intel is good. Otherwise, we are wasting each other's time." My attention turns to a car that passed the building, sighing as it sped off down a side road.
"You want to take on a dark witch?" Colt now looked worried.
"Not just a dark witch." My father chimes next to me. "Sources state they may have some vampire help as well."
The colour was draining from Colt's face as he approached me. "Abby, I know you are going through a lot..."
I could see tears gathering in his eyes as he went on. "But going on a suicide mission isn't the answer."
"This isn't a suicide mission."
"It's you and your father versus a dark witch and vampires! Even Edward here must understand that you are heavily outnumbered."
"Which is why we are gathering more intel." Dad decides to speak. "I have bugged the flat. They arrive, we find out the plan and then we decide who deals with it - Hunters or your little pack."
"You would let a wolf pack deal with your problem?" Clarke questions him.
"I have quite a few problems lately, so why not let them take care of each other. It almost worked for you and Blood Moon." That had all three wolves present growling at him.
That never phased my father though. Instead, his focus turned to some figures walking down the street. "This might be it."
Colt and Clarke tuck in close by us as we watch the figures approach - two males and a female. The male with curly hair made my blood boil, resulting in Colt laying a hand on my shoulder to try and calm me down. "Gabe. That's him. The one on the left."
"One female - that will be the dark witch who has been shielding him." We turn our attention to the last figure as they approach the front door. "One unknown male."
Sniffing can be heard next to me. I turn to look at Colt. "I can smell him. That's a vampire."
"Intel verified." Dad pulls out a radio from his coat and turns it on. Static can be heard before it goes quiet. "Now to listen in."
"Shouldn't we get back up?" Clarke asks.
"Who do you want then - Hunters or White Crescent?" My father looks bored of our additional company.
"The pack. Obviously."
"Shush! All of you!" I turn to Clarke. "I have my necklace. Adelaide and Maeve can get us out of here if we need to."
"Does that include me?" Dad leans in next to me.
"Reluctantly, you are needed at the moment. But don't push it, or we will leave you behind."
The sound of a door opening can be heard on the radio which mutes our group. Time to find out what they are doing.
