24 - Abby POV

1214 Words
I can't be hearing him right. There is no way I am hearing this. Gabe coming back to the UK. He must have a death wish. Or... he wants to exact his revenge. Pah! He will be in for a shock when he finds out that I am not the same girl he left behind. But... I need to check this out, especially as Dad is the one providing this information. "This information on Gabe - how reliable is it?" I needed to know if this was a joke or if this was genuine. That just led to Dad having a smile across his face; a proper cheese eating grin. "Care about your friend?" "He is not my friend. Remember? He betrayed me and took me to the enemy pack where I would have become a breeding factory." That caused that smile to falter and drop to the floor. "I would have got you out of there." He defended himself. "You weren't there. And it would have been too late by the time you got back. I was literally being forced to drink a potion and nearly forced into accepting a mate's bond within hours of being in that pack." And that was one of the most scariest moments of my life. "You should be thankful to Colt, Jason, the McGraws and White Crescent for saving me that night." I felt like I had to remind him of that point. That supernaturals saved my life of numerous occassions. My father just wafts a hand carelessly in my direction. "Anyway, back to the matter at hand." "Hmm, fine." I was not going to get the answers I needed to know if we carried on this tit for tat anyway. "How do you know that Gabe is coming back here?" Dad leans back so he is resting back on the counter top.I decided to push myself up onto the work surface so that I sat with my legs swinging off the end of the counter. "From my understanding, you had a bounty of Gabe's head - dead or alive. Correct?" "Yes. He was a threat to me and the ones I loved. We could not afford to take the chance." It was so weird to put a bounty on my former friend. But, emphasis on the former part. "Well, during his escape, he made friends with a dark witch." "The one that is also coming to the UK?" "The one and the same." He gave me a little smirk before he continues. "They took out a few Hunters whilst they have been over there." "Such a shame." I returned his smirk for him. He doesn't bother to quip back this time. "The Hunter clans across in the States contacted us for details on Gabe." "Didn't realise that Hunter Clans kept a track of humans too?" "Only the ones that are connected to the supernaturals." That would mean that they would have a file on me and then I guess they would be compiling one on Mum too. Did we have ones created because of our friendship with the McGraw family or only now that we are with White Crescent? "Continue." There were going to be too many questions rattling around in my head if I kept thinking of all these possibilities. "After passing on this information, we then were informed of any movements made by the pair. That dark witch seems to be quite the foe." Just what we needed right now - another dangerous enemy to add to the list. "I received through my sources that a hunter went after them and just so happened to find them at the airport." That had my ears prickle. "When was this?" "Two days ago." He responded with. This means that... "Gabe and this dark witch could be in the country right now." "Not yet." What does he mean not yet? "How can you be so sure of that?" He couldn't be keeping an eye on all the airports, no matter how good his sources are. "When I found out Gabe was the mate of the Blood Moon Alpha, Xavier-" Urrgghhh that name alone sent a shiver down my spine. "-I searched his apartment for anything that may have been of use." "And? Did you find anything? I was becoming impatient - it felt like he was delibrately drawing out the answer. Get on with it, Dad! "Nothing physical - it seems that he spent his time with Xavier only at the packhouse." "So, how is this helpful now?" "Oh, Abby. Have faith in your old man." He smirks at me again. "I bugged the place." "So you are listening in on what... white noise if they are not back yet." "I also am tracking all flights coming into the country from the States." That seems a little bit closer to usual. "So, is he on the flight over?" "No." Huh? "But it seems a hunter who was found dead at the airport is on the plane." "How is that possible?" Did I mention that I would be writing a book on all the things I have learnt about the supernaturals? I feel like with the amount of information that I have obtained, this could be a number one bestseller. "Dark witches have their ways - CCTV caught the hunter being dragged into a cupboard by the witch along with Gabe. The only people who emerged were the hunter and the witch." "That doesn't make sense." This was so confusing. "If it wasn't for his change in his posture and his interactions with the witch, the Hunter clan he was a part of would never have been able to tell." "So... Gabe is now the hunter?" Yep, definitely confusing. "Only briefly. Cloaking spells do not last forever." "So, what now?" The level that they are going to to return, we needed a good strategy to take them down. "Wait until they arrive in the country. If they go back to Gabe's place, the bugs will pick up on their conversations so we can see what they are planning." I just nodded along. "Good. I can go to the pack and get them to help take them down." "Whoa whoa whoa, who said this was pack business?" He holds up a finger to me. "I am tracking this lead. I will make the capture and that will mean I will re-earn my respect with the Hunters." "And do you really think you can take on a dark witch along with these vampires you said are helping? You are seriously outnumbered." He was making this sound like a suicide mission for him. His head shot to the sky and he sighed in annoyance. "Uaaarrrgghhh! Alright fine, how about a compromise?" "Like what?" "Just you come with me to scout out the place. Once we have more intel, we can then flip a coin to decide who deals with it - me or you. Agree?" This felt like a trap. Would he really lead me into a trap? In fairness, nothing would surprise me with my father these days. "You want me to come on your hunting trip?" "Yes. So, are you in or are you out?" This I guess would be the big question. What do I do?
