5 - Colt POV

1350 Words
Gasps escape from everyone in the corridor as they watch their Alpha being thrown to the ground by the McGraw sisters. "HOW DARE YOU!" Adelaide seethes at me. "YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH!?" Maeve follows up. But their anger did not shake me. I brushed myself down and rose to my feet, turning to Harrison who was ths closest nurse in the corridor. "Which room will my mate and son be moved to after their surgery is complete?" Harrison shakily points to a door down the corridor before slowly backing away. His eyes kept darting behind me - I didn't need to turn around to tell that Adelaide and Maeve had reached a whole new level of rage. Choosing to ignore them, I made my way down towards what would be Abby's room. The footsteps speedwalking behind me confirming that I would not be going alone. "DID YOU NOT HEAR US!?" "HAVE YOU GOT NOTHING TO SAY." That's it! "I DID WHAT ANYONE ELSE WOULD DO IN MY POSITION! DO NOT ACT LIKE YOU TWO WOULD NOT DO THE SAME IF CLARKE OR FAYE WERE IN THERE RIGHT NOW!" My Alpha aura came off in such a wave that every wolf in the corridor shot the the floor, knelt down on their knees whilst their bared their necks in submission. The only ones still standing - Adelaide and Maeve. We were having our own battle of wills as our eyes bore into each other; my black eyes vs their respective purple and blue. This only ended once I turned and made it to the room. My annoyance got the best of my as the door slammed against the wall, causing a large dent whilst spooking the people on the inside. Jason shot to his feet as he went to shield Helen, who was pushing herself tightly into Talia's embrace. They all looked nervous as the three of us entered the room, not being helped by when Maeve slammed the door shut. "Did you even think it all through beforehand? You think you will not have to deal with the Council regardless. Your Elders, along with the other Alphas and Lunas, are still on site. Do you not think they would have to deal with you now?" Adelaide chastised me as our little staring contest resumes. "I will deal with any consequences that come from my actions. But, I had a chance to save her life and so I took it. Pray to the Moon Goddess that Clarke does not end up in the same situation that Abby is in now. Otherwise, I would be calling you a hypocrite." She goes to throw a blast at me but I clamp my hands over hers so that she was restricted. Her cry of anger is met by my growl of rage before we are pushed apart by Jason. "Does someone want to explain what is going on here? You are scaring Helen!" Jason looks between us, confusion and annoyance wrapped around each word. "Colt bit Abby to convert her into a wolf." Maeve accuses as she points a finger at me. I swat it away, going to make a step towards her but I am shoved away by Jason. "Enough!" He barks at the both of us before turning towards me. "Is that true?" "Yes, it is true." My gaze fixes on him. "Have you got a problem with that?" He thinks over his words, probably trying to find the right ones to say without angering anyone in the room. Good luck with that! "Why?" Was all he could muster the courage to say. "She was dying. Dr. Moss said-" "When did he say this?" Maeve halts my sentence. "We mindlinked while he was operating on Abby." "So he is complicit too!" Adelaide's magic begins to crackle around her again. "I was advised, by Dr. Moss, that Abby would have a chance of survival if converted; she would die if she remained human." I stand defiant against the sisters. Jason had to hold his arm up between us to stop us from lunging at each other. "So did he only advise you then?" "Yes. He gave advise on the matter." "And so you acted on your own in the decision to convert Abby." They both chastised me. "Yes. I made the decision and I would do it again." Would I have really sat back and let my mate die in front of me? "Why is this a problem?" Helen speaks through the tension. "If this could save Abby's life then why is no one pleased with Colt's decision." Well, apart from herself - at least there was someone on my side. I gave her a small smile as a thank you. Sadly, that small moment of happiness was interrupted by Talia. "Helen, Abby did not consent to being converted and a lot of people witnessed that on the courtyard." "But... surely she will understand. We can talk to her once she wakes." Helen looked at everyone. Her eyes filled eith optimism. Jason sighed. "It's not that simple. Werewolf conversions are not always successful, so she could still die after all this." "Forget whether she makes it through the conversion!" Adelaide protests before turning her attention back to me. "Colt broke the law. The Council will punish him for that." "But... he could save our Abby..." Fresh tears began to form in Helen's eyes, resulting in her being pulled back in towards Talia. "And, as a result, he could be stripped of his Alpha title and be imprisoned for life." Maeve responded. It was true. The Council didn't want people converting anyone on a whim. And so, to prevent said supernatural from converting anyone else, they would be held prisoner under the Houses of Parliament. But I steeled myself before I addressed the group. "If it means that Abby is alive, I would take any punishment I get." The sisters take a breath before they speak. "So, if she makes it through, she gets to watch her mate get hauled off to prison, and will most likely never get to see you again." "You save her and then would be forced to abandon her. What a life." A growl escapes from me as my eyes begin to turn black again. Maeve and Adelaide begin to summon their magic around them. Jason stands between us as Talia pulls Helen into the corner of the room, trying to get her out of harms way. *Knock knock knock* That seemed to temper, slightly, the tension in the room as Dr. Moss walked in. Behind him, Abby was being pulled in on a gurney before being rigged up to the monitors in the room. Beads of sweat were rolling off of Abby by the second as the sheets were already drenched. "Asher is still in the operating theatre." Dr. Moss commented plainly. "We will bring him through later." He doesn't meet my eyes as he turns to leave the room. "Abby is going through the first stages of the conversion. Keep toweling her down - we will keep an eye on her progress throughout the night." He leaves the room with his eyes fixed to the ground; the nurses follow suit without even a glance in my direction. Adelaide and Maeve take one look at each of us in the room, their eyes resting on Abby for a little bit longer, before they march out of the room. I grab the other seat that was in the room and moved it to Abby's left hand side. Glancing at her stomach, it was so weird to see it flat giving that my son had been in their a few moments ago. I turn to the others. "You staying?" Helen was the first to move. Reclaiming her seat from earlier and sliding to Abby's right, taking a hold of her hand and giving it a soft squeeze. Jason and Talia stand either side of her, casting the odd glance in my direction to see if I had calmed. I just focus on Abby. Come back to me, Abby.
