We heard bits of their conversation whilst they were in the flat but nothing to exciting. Even when they mentioned coming after White Crescent - no surprises there.
What did confuse me was the strange words being spoken by the female.
"Efirts s'retsam ruoy tabmoc - niaga esira. Efil ot htaed dna htaed ot efil."
"What is she doing?" I turn to the group, considering I was the newbie to this, they should have the an answer.
"Casting a spell of some description." Clarke decided to answer me. "Dark witches say the words backwards for their spells."
"So, do we know what she is saying?" No one needed to answer me for that one. White specks of dust started to pour out of the device, surrounded by black smoke .
"Sh*t!" Dad exclaimed as he threw the device down the alleyway as more and more of the dust flows out of the radio, forming four piles on the floor as it gathered together.
The chanting continued as the smoke began to pull the dust up from the ground. The dust that remained on the group began to form into feet - well, the bones that make up a foot with the black smoke outlining it.
As it continued to rise, more and more of a skeleton began to form until, eventually, four whole skeletal body stood before us being contained by the smoke.
"Get on the bikes." My father ordered Colt and Clarke as the small red orbs began to glow in the sockets of the skull of each skeleton. "On the bikes! Now!"
Colt jumps on the back of my bike whilst Clarke jumps on the back of my father's. Zooming out of the alleyway and down the street, I catch sight of the skeletons giving chase in my mirrors... and somehow keeping up with our motorcycles.
How are they doing that?
Must be the dark magic that is empowering them. They were not like this when the Argonauts were forced to take them on.
Ok, and how do we stop them?
I would suggest getting a hold of your witch friends - the best way to fight dark magic is with light magic.
She made a good point. Probably why she was the Goddess of the Hunt - you need good logic and tactics for that role.
Reaching into my leather jacket, I take a hold of my necklace whilst making sure didn't swerve out of control in the process as we made out way out of the city centre and headed towards Sherwood Forest.
Colt, seeing this, leant forward and grabbed the handlebars, his large frame encasing me completely as I pushed flat on my bike.
You get Adelaide and Maeve, I will drive. His voice echoed in my brain.
I just gave him a quick nod before glancing in my mirrors. The skeletons were still on our tails. They could only chase us, I didn't want to know what they were capable of if they caught us or if they chassd us for so long that we ran out of petrol, so guess we would have to keep riding away from them.
It wasn't until that we were driving through the outskirts of the foest that we began to see a white light flash up ahead... only for a big pickup truck to come driving straight at us!
Reclaiming the handlebars, myself and my father swerved our bikes out of the way as it went straight between us. The skeletons ducked out of the way, letting out a horrifying shriek as the truck did a handbrake turn and began to tail us all.
Sorry about that. Jason said over the mindlink. The sisters said it is very hard to teleport on a moving target.
Doesn't matter, just get them to take them out. Colt ordered in return as I pushed myself back up so I was no longer lying flat.
Adelaide and Maeve were standing in the back of the truck, their magic flairing around them as they began firing shots at our pursuers.
Some missed, some caught the odd limb but the black smoke seemed to regather the dust particles and pop them back into place.
You could see the sisters getting frustrated as they continued firing. Jason piped up over the mindlink again. They want to know if you lot would be willing to slow down.
By how much? My turn to respond. This mindlinking thing still felt so odd.
Ehhh... to a standstill preferably. They want us to be stationary? Like sitting ducks?
Jason goes on to explain. They said the black smoke is dark magic essence which they need to get a hold of to purify... and they don't fancy trying to jump on a skeleton at this speed.
Especially in their conditions! Clarke retorts back, referencing that both sisters are pregnant. There was a tiny sting in my heart thinking like that... I was so scared when I found out I was pregnant with Asher. Now... I just want him here.
Colt, sensing my unease, squeezes my waist from behind. Fine. That is all I responded with before turning to my father, indicating to him to hit the brakes.
He takes one last glance behind him before turning back to me and giving me a curt nod.
The tyres screech as we come to a grinding halt in the middle of the road.
We had barely stopped before the skeletons came barreling into us. The force knocked us clean off our respecitive motorbikes and sent us careening down the road.
I couldn't count how many times I rolled along the road before I managed to land flat on my back, only to have a skeleton jump straight on top of me.
Clasping onto it's wrists, I strain against it as it's jaw tries to take a bite out of me.
Thank you for the helmet, but I still don't like this. Remembering Jason's self defense lessons - I will have to thank him for this - I thrust my hips up and push with all my might so that we flipped over to my left.
Once the skeleton was on it's back on the floor, I used all of my might to push myself away and up onto my feet.
The force ripped away the skeleton's hands from where I was holding them; they still continued to move as they tried to dig it's nails into me. Dropping them to the floor, they are pulled back to the main body to be reconnected.
Glancing at the other three, I can see they are all taking care of their own skeleton as the pickup truck comes to a halt behind me. One quick look at my father told me he was struggling a lot with his assailant.
Adelaide and Maeve leap from the back of the truck and make their way over to Clarke and Colt, since they were the nearest to them, and jumped onto the skeleton's backs, ordering the wolves to hold the skeleton still as they clasped their hands on either side of the skull.
"Abby!" Jason comes running towards me as my skeleton goes for a lunge but misses.
"Not me, help dad!"
"Dad?" He looks startled as I indicate to the person off to my left hand side.
"But-"
"Do it!" I halt his protest as I stare down my skeleton. Taking off my helmet, I use it to thwack it across the skull - it would have gone flying had the smoke not retracted it back into place.
That's it! I throw off my jacket and get into a fighting stance.
Artemis, I don't think we have time to shift considering how long it took last time, but care to take a lead on this one?
You want me to control your body? She mulls it for a few seconds as the skeleton charges back at us. Sure, let's do this.
