Chapter 4: Bound by Fire

1345 Words
Layla’s POV I woke to the sound of rain tapping against the windows and the warmth of his body wrapped around mine. Zayn Morelli was not a man meant for softness. Yet here he was—one arm draped over my waist, his face buried in the crook of my neck, as if I was his only tether to peace. His breath was even, his hold protective, not possessive. But I knew what this meant—for him, for us. Last night hadn’t been an accident. It hadn’t been lust. It had been a break. A moment in time when he let go of everything the world expected him to be and simply… felt. He hovered over me, eyes stormy, hands braced on either side of my head. The way he looked at me—so fierce, so hungry—made my breath catch.. But I was trembling. Not from fear. From knowing. Knowing this would be the moment everything changed. Zayn paused looked back, like he sensed it. “You’ve done this before?” he asked, his voice a low growl—but there was something behind it. Something almost… hesitant. I shook my head slowly. His body went still. “You’re a virgin?” I nodded, cheeks burning. For a man like Zayn—who moved through life with ruthless confidence, who controlled everything—this revelation seemed to knock the air from his lungs. His jaw flexed, and for a second, I saw something flicker in his expression. Regret? Restraint? Fear of breaking me? He leaned down, brushing his lips against my temple. “Layla… you don’t have to do this.” “But I want to,” I whispered. “I want you.” His hand gripped the sheets beside my head. “You have no idea how hard I’ve tried to stay away.” “Then stop trying.” With a low, broken sound, he kissed me again—slower now. Deeper. His hands moved with reverence, sliding down my sides as if learning me inch by inch. When he positioned himself at my entrance, he looked down at me, chest rising and falling with restraint. “Tell me to stop. Just once, Layla, and I will.” “I won’t,” I breathed. “I want all of you.” He pushed in slowly. The pressure was sharp. My breath hitched. My back arched instinctively from the pain. “Zayn—” I whimpered, eyes squeezing shut. His body froze instantly. “Shh, shh,” he whispered, leaning down, his lips on my cheek, my jaw, my neck. “Breathe, baby. I’ve got you. I swear I won’t hurt you more than this.” But I was hurting. My body wasn’t used to him—to this. The stretch burned, tears pricked the corners of my eyes. He kissed them away before they could fall. “I’m going slow,” he murmured against my lips. “I’m not going to break you. Just hold on to me.” And I did. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders, clinging to the strength in him, letting his voice anchor me through the ache. Each inch he moved felt like fire and tenderness mixed together. Then—he stilled. Fully inside me. “You’re doing so good,” he whispered, pressing his forehead to mine. “So damn perfect.” I couldn’t speak. I could barely breathe. He gave me time. He kissed me, stroked my hair, whispered things I never expected from a man like him. And when the pain dulled, replaced by a warm, slow pulse of pleasure, I shifted my hips and nodded. He began to move. Gently. Carefully. His control was terrifying—like he was holding back a storm just for me. The pain faded gradually, replaced by something deeper. He moved in smooth, rhythmic strokes, and each one drew a gasp from me, a whisper of his name, a new sensation I’d never felt before. And when I finally cried out—not from pain, but from a blinding, beautiful release—his body tensed above mine. “I can’t hold back anymore,” he growled. “Then don’t.” He let go. And for the first time, Zayn Morelli—mafia lord, feared leader, untouchable man—shattered inside me. When it was over, I could barely move. My body felt like it wasn’t mine anymore—stretched, trembling, tender in ways I hadn’t expected. A dull ache bloomed between my thighs, and I winced when I shifted even the slightest. Zayn noticed instantly. “Easy,” he whispered, brushing the hair from my face. “Don’t move yet, baby.” He leaned over and kissed my temple, chest still heaving against mine, and carefully—so carefully—slid out of me. I whimpered at the sensation. It wasn’t sharp, just sore. Raw. His jaw clenched. “I hurt you.” “No,” I whispered, voice cracked. “You didn’t. It just… it was my first. My body’s just not used to—” He cut me off with a kiss. Soft. Apologetic. “Don’t explain. I should’ve known better. I should’ve waited. I couldn’t—” He stopped himself, eyes flickering with guilt. “I let my control slip.” “You didn’t break me,” I told him, cupping his cheek. “You made me feel everything.” His eyes darkened. “Still…” Zayn got up, naked and unashamed, muscles flexing with every move. I watched him disappear into the bathroom, and seconds later, he returned—shirtless, a warm towel in one hand, a glass of water in the other. “Drink this first,” he murmured, lifting my head with extreme care, like I was porcelain. I sipped it slowly, still too sore to sit up on my own. Then came the part that melted me more than any kiss ever could. Zayn kneeled on the bed between my legs. Gently, he spread my thighs apart—his hands large, calloused, and now trembling slightly. He avoided my eyes, like he was afraid to see pain on my face. With warm water, he cleaned me. Every touch was patient, reverent. He didn’t speak, only focused, his brows furrowed in concentration. When I hissed softly at the sting, he paused, leaned forward, and kissed the inside of my knee. “I’m sorry,” he said, again and again, as if his soul needed to say it. When he was done, he reached for one of his shirts and pulled it gently over my head, then wrapped the sheets around me like a cocoon. I was warm. I was sore. I was exhausted. But I’d never felt safer. Zayn climbed into bed next to me and pulled me onto his chest like I weighed nothing. His arms wrapped around me completely, one hand stroking my hair, the other rubbing small circles over my lower back. “You’re not walking today,” he muttered darkly, and I could feel the guilt in his tone. “I can already tell,” I said, chuckling weakly. He stilled. “You’re laughing?” I nodded, my fingers playing with the chain resting on his chest. “You’re treating me like a broken doll.” “You’re not broken. You’re…” He exhaled harshly. “You’re the most fragile thing I’ve ever touched. And I’m a f***ing wrecking ball.” “No,” I whispered. “You’re not. Not with me.” His grip tightened slightly. “You’re not going anywhere, Layla,” he said. “Not after this. Not ever.” My heart thundered. “Do you mean that?” His reply came without hesitation. “I’ve never meant anything more in my life.” And just like that, the most dangerous man in the city curled around me like I was the only thing worth protecting. And I let him. Because somehow, somewhere between fear and fire, we’d fallen—deep, hard, and impossibly fast. And neither of us was ready to stop.
