Chapter 17: Strange Turn Of Events

Chapter 17 Strange Turn Of Events Azara P.O.V. Clem continues on not seeing our faces, “he is great! He is from the Alector pack. Isn’t that the pack you are from Azara?” I look up at my mate, who is currently wearing a face of total irritation though I don’t know if it is due to us being interrupted or due to his sister’s mate being my oldest friend. Who he was just jealous of. Then I look back Clem, “yeah, I am from the Alector pack. In fact Apollo and I are old friends.” Clem scrunches up her nose, “just friends though? Right?” I laugh, “yes just friends. Apollo and I never slept together.”  Clem goes back to smiling, “good because that would have been very awkward.” (she is right it would have been weird). Cora, “are you going to tell them that you two dated.” Me talking to Cora, “I don’t know. I mean the fact that we didn’t sleep together should be enough shouldn’t it.” Cora, “maybe for Clem but I don’t think Damian will see it that way.” Still talking to my wolf, “yeah but I don’t think he will react very well considering how badly he reacted to me hugging Apollo before he knew everything. Imagine how bad it will be if he finds out I used to date his sisters new mate.” Cora sighs, “but you will tell him eventually right.” I think about it for a second before I respond, “yeah I will tell him. Just not now.” Clem, “Okay are you guys ready to go down and greet him.” “Yeah of course Clem,” I respond realizing Damian hasn’t said anything through this whole exchange.  “Good I’ll meet you both down there.” I stand up and turn around to look at my mate. Who is still laying on our bed looking disgruntled. “Are you okay?” I ask him. “Why wouldn’t I be okay with the fact that my sisters mate is your oldest friend? Who by the way I was hoping to never see again.” I chuckle, “I know it is a weird change of events. Try not to ruin it for your sister. She seems really happy to have finally found her mate and nothing is going on between us, I promise.”  (I really hope he doesn’t catch on to my word choice.) “Nothing is going on? As in something has been going on.” I sigh, (no such luck). “Honestly?” He glares at me.  I sit back down on the bed. “Yeah.”  I take a deep breath and look at my hands before continuing, “We’ve been friends since we were little kids and back when we were 15 we decided to try dating each other with the promise that if one of us were to meet our mate we separate on good terms. Not that it mattered because when we only went on a couple of dates. We decided that that the chemistry just wasn’t there and so we ended things and stayed friends. We haven’t had any other type of relationship in years.” I glance up at him to gauge his reaction but he’s just sitting there with a stony mask. “Would you have told me if I didn’t catch your wording?” He asks me. “Yeah, I would have. Just not right before you met him as your sisters mate.” I tell him. “When, today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, 30 years later.” He snaps but I can’t help but smile.  “Today or tomorrow but I am glad to hear that 30 years down the road is an option.” I respond. He huffs. “Let’s go congratulate the new mates.” I tell him as I stand back up. “Fine,” He says as he too gets up. We walk down the hall and downstairs together. Once we reach the livingroom we can see the crowd gathering around the new happy couple. However everyone makes way for the Alpha. “Which pack will you live with?” He asks. I elbow him in the ribs but he doesn’t show that it effect him. However his words seem to effect everyone in the room because the crowd quickly disappears.  Clem glares at her brother, “we haven’t discussed it yet.” “You should have, as his pack is leaving in the morning once the treaties are signed.” Damian responds. “Damian, seriously they just became mates.” I say irritated by his attitude. “However I am curious to hear why you to haven’t met before now. Especially since Apollo is 20 and Clem is 19.” I look at the other two, who look saddened by the knowledge. Apollo rubs the back of his neck, “well my first year she was still underage, the second year I was injured in that battle. Remember.” I nod, (I did indeed remember his injury).  Clem blushed, “my second year and I guess is 3rd year I couldn’t go because I had been injured during training and this year I had exams and couldn’t make it.” “Yes, Yes, How lucky you two are that his pack came for a treaty today. What a lucky meeting. Back to the pack shift.” Snaps Damian clearly getting frustrated. Apollo stares at him, while Clem gives him a dirty look. “Mind your own god damn business. We will tell you when we have come to a decision.” Damian glares back at her, “good you know where to find.” The he turns on his heel and stomps back up the stairs. “I’m sorry, it has been a difficult day for him. Forgive his behavior?” I tell the new couple. “Since when do you apologize for my brother,” snaps Clem. I sigh, “since he is my mate and I was a huge part of why his day has been so difficult.” Clem stares at me for a few seconds before spitting out, “yeah, well sometimes I don’t get why you don’t just reject him.” “Clem,” I yell.  “What, he is the worst to you.”  “He is my mate.” I remind her one last time before turning around and walking back up the stairs to check on my mate. (Why must things be so complicated right when it seems like we are making progress it turns out our relationship is dysfunctional at best.) “Maybe you should have told him about Apollo sooner.” Snaps Cora. “Oh don’t you go blaming me for this,” I snap back at her. “Well, I think it’s about time you start making our mate a priority.” “Yeah, well all that extra effort will be just as pointless as before if he doesn’t want to try and be in a relationship,” I growl. Cora whimpers.  “Maybe Clem is right and we should reject him,” I tell her. Cora whimpers even more, “I don’t know that I can survive losing him after how long it took for us to find him.” “I know,” I whisper. I knock on the door to his office and then walk in before he can answer to find him sitting behind his desk clearly talking to Demon. “Anything, you care to discuss with me too,” I ask him. “No,” he growls. “Okay, I guess I’ll start then.” He glares at me. “Just a guess but I would say that you are currently trying to decide which is better, Apollo joining the Winter Waters pack meaning your sister would stay or Clem moving to the Alector pack which would mean you wouldn’t have to see Apollo anymore.”  He continues to glare at me. “I guess, I am right then.” I say to nobody in particular as I take a seat across from him. Finally after a really long time he whispers, “yeah.” I ask, “so what did you decide?” “I still haven’t.” He tells me.  “I think you should choose them staying,” I tell him. “Why so you can spend more time with you ex?” He growls.  “No.” I snap at him. “It’s because she is your family and I think that people should do whatever they can to keep their family close. Which I guess comes from the fact that I am an orphan and my only sibling moved away from my pack 5 years ago and forgot he had a sister.”  He stares at me for a second before getting up and walking around the desk. “I’m sorry.” “Don’t be. I am used to people not giving a s**t about me. However you being jealous over something that happened years ago and pushing your sister away because of it is stupid.” He continues to stare at me through my entire rant, “you’re wrong, I give a shit.” I smile lightly, “then come to bed for once and in the morning tell your sister that you love her, that your happy for her, and that you want her to stay.” I whisper to him. He grins, “Okay,” and with that he picks me up bridal style and carries me to our room.
