Chapter 5

I finish up with washing my hair and shaving my legs when I hear a voice from outside of the shower I am in. “Jessica, you ok in there or did you drown?” It is Damon. How did he know which one I came to? Was he watching me? “Yes.” I manage to get out. “Yes you are almost done or yes you drowned?” I could hear him chuckling to himself. I can imagine his bight smile when I hear this. Snap out of it Jessica! Jesus, I swear this guy is making me go crazy! “Yes, I am almost done. Don’t you think that if I had drowned, you wouldn’t get a response from me?” I hear his laughter fading away a little. He probably wandered away from the shower so I could finish. I hurried with washing the rest of my body off and turned the shower to complete cold water. I am not even sure why I do this. Ellie told me it closes your pores after you shower. I just think she might have done it to be cruel now. I do a quick rinse in the freezing water and shut it off. I peek my head from behind the curtain and grab the first towel for my hair. Rolling it up to the top of my head, I peek out again and grab the second towel for my body. I wrap it around myself and can almost do it twice. “Man, why do you guys have such huge towels?” I called to Damon as I was opening the shower curtain. “Because we have some bigger guys in the agency.” Damon was dressed in the sweats and t-shirt that he pulled from the room I was in. He was going through a file folder he had spread out on the bench. “Which room should I dry off and change in?” There was no way in hell I would do that in front of him now. I can see his muscles even better in the sweat and shirt than in the other clothes I first saw him in. Damon didn’t look up at me but pointed to a door that was to my left. “That one is the biggest one and has the best lighting. I’m not sure of your facial routine but all the ladies in the building love that room.” Hum….well I guess that’s good to know. I pick up my stack of clothes and head to the door. As I push it open, the light turns on. I see this room that is bigger than my closet with a huge mirror. There are two couches and a chair in here. There is a toilet, a huge vanity with lights all the way around it and an armoire. I shut the door behind me so that Damon can’t hear my amazement. I set my stuff down on the chair and head to the armoire. It has three doors on it that swing open with the middle one having a mirror on it. I can’t help but notice the details on it are amazing. My grandmother had one just like this when I was a kid. She always told me it was a Victorian Eastlake. I used to hide in it when Ellie and I would play hide and go seek. She would never find me because she always thought that armoire would take you to another world. I open the door on the left and the middle door. To my surprise, there were bathroom items in there. Things like deodorant, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. They also had razors, toothbrushes, hair towels and all kinds of hair products. There was even blow dryers, straighter, curling irons and hygiene items in there. I shut the two doors and open the third. It had some clothing items in there. Underwear and socks on the bottom in packages. Pants, shorts and sweats were hung on the left while going out shirts and tees were on the right. I grabbed a package of underwear and socks from the bottom shelf. I doubt they will miss these. I get dressed quickly and let down my hair. It usually takes several hours for me to tame my mane, but I don’t have access to the products these ladies do! I go through the armoire and find something that I think will work on my hair and spray it on. I go to town on brushing and to my surprise, it is getting the job done! I finish up with brushing my hair and decide to let it air dry. It doesn’t ever get frizzy, just kind of curls up. I put everything back in its place and pack up my little shower caddy. I open the door to see Damon still sitting on the bench with the papers spread out. “I see your hard at work here.” I must have startled him because he jumps and starts to put away the papers. “Oh no, please don’t stop on my account. I know the way back to the room.” I am trying to tease him, but I have a feeling that those papers dealt with my sister. “Nope. Just going over some last-minute details. I ordered us some food and it should be at the room by the time we get there.” As we are leaving the showers, we are practically run over by the lady that stitched up my arm. “Oh, Agent Glendale, excuse us.” We both tried to step out of the way when she stepped right in front of me. “You know, just because everyone here thinks you’re their saving grace, I know what you are.” She was standing directly in my face and I was so confused. “You won’t be the one to help the agency. You’re not even old enough to do this job and your out here acting like you own the place.” I was beginning to think she hated me for the wrong reasons. “I’m not trying to be anyone’s saving grace as you put it. I am trying to find my sister and go home. I am not sure what is going on with you two, but I am not apart of it. Nor do I want to be.” I stepped to the side again and surprisingly, she let me by. I was sure this crazy woman was going to hit me. I started down the hallway while Damon was telling her something before he followed me. I didn’t hear what he said and at that moment in time, I didn’t care. I can’t believe I was letting my mind wonder about him when the reason I am here is for Ellie. Not him, not the FBI, not anyone but Ellie. “Hey, sorry about that. She is actually my big sister and is very protective of me. She thought you and I were a thing because we were going out of the showers together. Don’t worry though, I let her know that she was being crazy.” I am not sure if he is trying to assure me everything is ok or warn me that the crazy woman is supposedly his sister. As we round the corner for our hall, we see a delivery guy at the door. “Stay behind me while I get our food ok? You can never be to sure. We usually vet all the people that come in and out of the building, but I don’t want to take any chances.” Damon pushes himself in front of me and walks down the hall at a faster pace. I hang back and try to hide in a doorway while he is getting our food. I didn’t even get a chance to tell him what I would like to eat! I just realized that! Hopefully it is something I actually like. Ellie would always order food for me and it would always end up being something I hated. I see the delivery guy turn and start down the hallway and Damon go to open the dorm door. I wait until the guy is out of sight before I walk down the rest of the way to my door. Inside, Damon is already taking out the food he ordered. It smelled amazing whatever it is. “I got Chinese food. Ellie said it was your favorite food, but she would never order it for you. She told me that she didn’t want you to get fat. Which, I don’t know why she would think that you would get fat off Chinese food. You have a great body type and I can tell your metabolism is very high.” I am pretty sure he was rambling off the items he bought off the menu but I was stuck on him pretty much saying I had a nice body and that my sister thought I was fat.
