Lyra’s POV The morning air in the palace was unusually tense. I had left Dylan’s chamber after making sure all the paperwork for the council meeting was ready, but my mind wasn’t calm. Ever since Veronica moved into the Alpha’s quarters, there had been constant whispers maids sneaking glances, warriors exchanging knowing looks, and that fake sweetness Veronica carried like perfume. I wasn’t one for gossip, but I wasn’t blind either. Something about her never sat right with me. As I walked down the long marble corridor, my heels tapping softly against the polished floor, I noticed the pack doctor ahead of me, heading toward the mistress’s room with a leather bag in hand.
