Cygnus clan members surround us. The barrels of five more guns join in, and my head pounds in dizziness. Joel and Ruth stand petrified among them, but everyone keeps their ground in case it triggers Bunny to shoot.
“I didn’t want to make a mess out of this,” Dove says. Her eyes skirt to the dim shadows against the wall. “But I also have a few friends with me. A girl’s gotta have backup.”
As if on cue, dark figures from the shadows emerge, and four vicious faces circle the Cygnus members. Where—how in the world? A trap over trap. And they have guns, too. I hope they’re all licensed, but such a thought ceases to matter at this point.
“I hoped to talk through this first,” Dove says, crossing her arms across her chest. “But the dangerous guy over there was getting rather impatient.”
