I swallow hard before spilling my nagging thoughts. “It’s something that happened with my ex-boyfriends.” Alistair’s brows tilt down. That’s a sign of disapproval, right? Dumb, Amy. Of course, he would be uncomfortable talking about my exes. I need to explain. “I’m sure you know that they both stopped going to school. Back then, there were rumours that they got beaten up or expelled, but I didn’t believe them. There’s been new rumours going around that—” I stop and avert my gaze. Neither of us is fond of rumours. We never believed in them. Saying this is just childish and makes me look overly fretful. “Rumours that say that I’ll get the same fate?” Alistair finishes. My eyes flick up to him. “You heard?” “It’s impossible even if I try not to,” he says. “You shouldn’t worry about that.
