Episode 9__ The Truth Between Us

851 Words
The footsteps outside the cabin grew louder. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Amara’s heartbeat slammed against her chest as Jason immediately stepped in front of her again. Protecting her. Always protecting her. Jason grabbed a small knife from the table quietly, his eyes locked on the door. “Stay behind me,” he whispered. Amara nodded nervously. The footsteps stopped. Silence. Then— Knock. Knock. Knock. Three slow knocks. Jason frowned slightly. That confused him. And that scared Amara even more. “Jason,” a voice suddenly called from outside. Jason stiffened instantly. It was a girl’s voice. “You know it’s me.” Amara looked up at him. “You know her?” Jason didn’t answer immediately. Then slowly— “Yes.” Before Amara could ask anything else, Jason opened the door slightly. A girl around their age stood outside in the rain. Long dark hair. Sharp eyes. Black leather jacket. And the moment she saw Amara— Her expression changed. “So she’s the girl,” she said quietly. Amara instantly felt uncomfortable. Jason’s voice turned cold again. “What are you doing here, Elena?” Elena stepped inside without permission. “I came to save your life.” Then her eyes moved to Amara again. “Though clearly you’re busy risking it.” The atmosphere shifted immediately. Amara noticed the tension. The history. Jason shut the door quickly. “How did you find us?” Elena crossed her arms. “You left a trail.” Then she looked at Amara directly. “They’ll find this place in less than ten minutes.” Amara swallowed nervously. “Who are ‘they’ exactly?” Elena laughed humorlessly. “You still haven’t told her?” Jason’s jaw tightened. “Enough.” “No,” Elena snapped back. “She deserves the truth.” Amara stepped forward. “Then tell me!” Silence filled the cabin. Rain hit the roof harder. Then Elena looked directly into Amara’s eyes and dropped the truth. “Your real name is Amelia Laurent.” The world stopped. Amara blinked slowly. “What…?” Elena continued. “Your parents weren’t ordinary people. They were part of one of the most powerful underground organizations in the country.” Amara shook her head instantly. “No.” “They were betrayed,” Elena said softly now. “And your parents died protecting you.” Amara stepped backward weakly. Jason moved toward her immediately. “Amara—” “Don’t,” she whispered. Everything hurt. Nothing felt real anymore. “You knew this whole time?” Jason looked down briefly. “Yes.” Tears burned her eyes instantly. “And you still lied to me?” “I was trying to protect you!” “By hiding who I am?!” Jason’s voice rose slightly for the first time. “Because the moment you know the truth, they’ll never stop chasing you!” Silence crashed into the room. Amara’s breathing shook. Then softly— “So all of this was fate?” Jason stared at her. “No.” A pause. Then— “It became real the moment I fell for you.” The words hit harder than anything else tonight. Amara froze completely. Even Elena looked shocked. Jason exhaled slowly, like he finally gave up hiding it. “I tried staying away from you,” he admitted quietly. “I really did.” Amara’s chest tightened painfully. “But every time I look at you…” he continued, voice lower now, “I forgot what I was supposed to do.” Tears slipped down Amara’s face silently. Because despite everything… She felt the same way. Jason stepped closer slowly. “I know you hate me right now.” Amara looked up at him. “I don’t hate you.” That answer surprised both of them. Jason’s eyes softened. Then suddenly— Gunshots exploded outside the cabin. Everyone ducked instantly. “They found us!” Elena shouted. The cabin windows shattered violently. Jason grabbed Amara’s hand immediately. “We have to move now!” Another gunshot. Wood splintered beside them. Elena pulled out a g*n. “I’ll hold them off!” Jason shook his head. “No—” “GO!” she yelled. Jason looked at Amara. Then toward the back door. Decision made. He pulled Amara toward the exit as chaos erupted behind them. Rain crashed against them the moment they escaped outside. They ran deep into the forest again. Faster. Desperate. Until finally Amara slipped on the wet ground. Jason caught her instantly before she fell. Both of them froze for a second. Faces inches apart. Breathing hard. Rain everywhere. Fear everywhere. But somehow… Still each other. Amara looked into his eyes. “What happens if they catch me?” Jason’s expression darkened painfully. “They won’t.” “But if they do?” Silence. Then Jason whispered the truth that shattered her heart. “I’d destroy everything to get you back.” Amara stared at him. And that moment… She realized this wasn’t just danger anymore. This was love. Forbidden. Broken. Fated. And impossible to escape.
