VICTOR’S POV I watched from the shadows, my senses heightened, as Megan’s voice drifted to me in hushed whispers. She found her mate. The words echoed in my mind, sharp and unexpected. I overheard her. I didn’t mean to listen in, but I caught every syllable. I always knew this day would come. It was only a matter of time before she would find someone, her soul’s other half. But I had hoped it wouldn’t happen so soon, not before I’d had a chance to prepare myself. We hadn’t discussed it, not seriously anyway. Not in words. But I knew, deep down, that it was something she thought about now and then. I could see it in her eyes when she thought no one was watching.
