Lexi grabbed her bag and headed out to meet Mark for lunch. They agreed to meet at a trendy café a few blocks from the office. As she walked in, Mark waved her over to a table by the window.
"Hey, Lexi! It's great to see you!" Mark said, giving her a warm smile.
Lexi smiled back, feeling a sense of relief at seeing a friendly face. "Thanks, Mark! It's great to be back."
Over lunch, they caught up on each other's lives, discussing everything from their personal projects to their favorite TV shows. Lexi felt like she was slipping back into her old routine, and it was nice to have Mark's company to make the transition smoother.
As they chatted, Lexi couldn't help but notice the way Mark listened attentively, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine interest in her thoughts. It was a refreshing change from the tension she'd experienced with Victoria earlier.
After lunch, Mark walked Lexi back to the office. "Hey, I was thinking," he said, "since you're new to the team, I could show you around the office and introduce you to some people. Would you like that?"
Lexi smiled, appreciating the offer. "That would be great, thanks. I'd love to get to know everyone better."
As they walked back to the office, Lexi felt a sense of gratitude toward Mark. He was being a great colleague, and she was lucky to have him as a friend.
When they returned to the office, Mark introduced Lexi to several colleagues, including some she hadn't met before. Lexi was making mental notes of everyone's names and roles when she saw Ethan walking toward her.
"Lexi, can I steal you for a minute?" Ethan asked, his eyes locking onto hers.
Lexi nodded, excusing herself from Mark. "Sure, what's up?"
Ethan smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I was thinking of hosting a team-building event this weekend. I'd like you to help me plan it."
Lexi's heart skipped a beat at the prospect of spending more time with Ethan. "Sounds like a great idea. I'd be happy to help."
As they discussed the event, Lexi couldn't help but wonder what Ethan had in mind. Was this a chance to get to know him better, or just a work-related project?
Ethan led Lexi to a conference room, where he began outlining his ideas for the team-building event. Lexi listened intently, taking notes and asking questions.
As they brainstormed, Lexi couldn't help but notice the way Ethan's eyes sparkled when he talked about his vision for the company. She felt a flutter in her chest, remembering the way he used to make her feel.
After a while, Ethan leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I think we have a good starting point," he said. "Let's finalize the details and make it happen."
Lexi nodded, feeling a sense of excitement. "I'll send out a proposal by the end of the day," she said.
As they wrapped up their discussion, Ethan stood up, signaling the end of their meeting. "Thanks for your input, Lexi. I appreciate it."
Lexi smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment. "No problem, happy to help."
As she left the conference room, Lexi couldn't help but wonder what the team-building event would be like. Would it be a chance for her to reconnect with Ethan, or would it be a disaster?
As she walked back to her office, she ran into Victoria again. "So, I hear you're planning the team-building event with Ethan," Victoria said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Good luck with that."
Lexi raised an eyebrow, sensing tension. "What do you mean?" she asked.
Victoria smirked. "Just that Ethan can be a bit...challenging to work with. Especially when it comes to his personal projects."
Lexi felt a surge of defensiveness, but she bit back her response. She didn't want to get drawn into a confrontation with Victoria.
"I think we'll manage," Lexi said finally, trying to sound confident.
Victoria raised an eyebrow, but Lexi just smiled and walked away. She wasn't going to let Victoria get under her skin.
