Chapter Two

1131 Words
Suzanna inwardly groaned as she felt the sleep eluding her. Damn, she just wanted to sleep! Why did she have to wake up and leave her bed? Hesitantly, she cracked an eye open. Wow. In her anger and fatigue yesterday she hadn't noticed the room's design. That was some strong pot this interior designer smoked, she thought. She looked up, studying the large neon shapes on the ceiling. Who with a brain uses glowing paint on a ceiling? She looked at the stars and hearts on the ceiling for a minute longer then got up, secretly thinking they actually looked pretty darn good. She yelped as unexpected pain shot through her side. She was honestly pretty tired of this s**t, all the damn stitches and everything. She just wanted to get back to being who she was before the accident and everything. Suzanna got up quickly before her thoughts strayed back to her mom and Chad. She needed to check in at the hospital and honestly, Dr. Ross better have a good reason why he nearly gave her a heart attack yesterday with all those missed calls. She scowled at her feet when she saw them. What the hell? I slept in my sneakers! With an eye roll she walked stiffly out of the bedroom when she remembered that she'd left absolutely everything in her SUV outside. She closed her eyes. Honestly, woman. Pull yourself together. Where was her damn mind yesterday?! Ignoring the pain in her side she made her way downstairs to grab some clothes. She'd have to get someone to bring the rest upstairs for her. Damn these stitches and bloody Ross for calling so many damn times which made me feel like I have to go in today! She groaned again while she waited for the elevator, hoping she never vocalized her thoughts to the senior Doctor in Chief. Oh, no. Oh, hell no. Suzanna noticed her reflection on the elevator doors. Red hair flaming all over her fair skinned face, mascara smudged. Dammit, woman. Try not leaving your apartment looking like the female joker. Honestly, Heath Ledger would fall in f*****g love. The elevator doors slid noiselessly open, she stepped on then... - "Hey, hold on.", someone said. Suzanna turned and stepped aside as a man with an illegally sexy smile stepped into the elevator. That smile wavered a little when he took a good look at Suzanna. Then it bloomed into an amused grin. Suzanna eyed him. Holdin back laughter, are ya? She thought rolling her eyes as the doors closed and the elevator began moving. Erik's POV Slamming his car door, Erik leaned his head against the headrest on his seat. Damn, those conferences drained him. Loosening his tie, he dragged a hand through his perfectly combed raven black hair, giving it a nice tousle and not caring since no one would be seeing him after this. He'd drive to the airport and take the jet back home. Done. Okay, let's get back to London. I'm tired, for f**k's sake. As Erik started the car he remembered Dr. Ross, his second in command at the hospital, telling him that the new doctor was starting on Monday. His face hardened as he drove. There was a reason why every single one of the head doctors at St. Davis was male. His way of doing things had kept that hospital running very smoothly for many years, but apparently that all went out the window when a lady batted her lashes, smiled and asked for a job. He had been adamant that the board refuse to hire the woman, but the one member of the board that he needed, voted against him and now he'd have to put up with this Dr. Somers. That is until the woman left. And she will leave. He'd be damned if some woman with a pretty face and zero f***s about actual medicine waltzed into his hospital and f****d it up. He'll make sure she doesn't last. Suzanna's POV Suzanna turned, while looking in her bedroom full body mirror. With her heavy mass of hair held up by an army of clips, her face looked fresher. Younger. The Dark marks beneath her eyes fading, she felt stronger. Today would be the first day she'd go back out into the world, officially working again. She wouldn't say she was done mourning her loss, because she didn't think that would ever happen. She'd always miss her ma. Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she smoothed her hands down her navy slacks, grabbed her handbag and was out the door. Honestly, Dr Ross. It better be good. Suzanna got in her car and started it. Her lips twitched when she remembered that mornings events. Guy with the killer smile - Fayaaz, is his name - who happens to be the owner of the only other apartment on the fourth floor, helped take her entire wardrobe up to her apartment. After he'd had a bloody good laugh at her. Maybe they'd be good friends. Yeah, why not? He seemed...nice. Suzanna listened to her GPS giving directions to the hospital. She didn't really want to go today, but her missing those calls meant a bit of extra effort was required for that "good impression". It's a bloody Sunday for f**k's sake. Suzanna rolled her eyes and kept driving. Erik's POV The hospital glass sliding doors slid shut behind Erik as he walked in and headed to Dr. Ross' office. He was exhausted, but he'd postpone his rest for now, if he could only convince Ross to reconsider their hiring the woman doctor. At least not as the head of the Physio department. Maybe they could give her something irrelevant, assisting somewhere in the nurse's quarters. Michael Ross wasn't surprised when Erik strode in without knocking. He looked up at Erik from behind his large desk, his plump face set in a bored expression. With 20 years of medical experience and my balding head, I think I'm over rich boys and they're mommy issues, he thought. Suddenly Erik narrowed his eyes at Ross like he'd heard the older man's thoughts. Ross, cleared his throat. "Erik. You came back sooner than expected!" he said. Erik completely ignored Ross' statement, "Is it confirmed? She begins work tomorrow?" Ross sighed and was about to answer when suddenly rring rring! rring rring! He gave Erik a weak smile as he answered," Yes....right now?... Direct her to my office. Yes." He looked at Erik after hanging up, took in his loosened tie, his wild looking hair and the scowl on his face. Ross shrugged. Well... This is going to be some first impression. "Michael, what is...", Erik began to ask but then the door swung open. He spun around and froze...
