Under The Night Sky

1231 Words
The quietness of the night always calmed everyone's nerves. After working hard at the day, the night was the time for them to just rest and enjoy each other's company. Usually, they would be staying inside the main building, but not this time. The group sat around a campfire, under the beautiful sky of the night. On top of the campfire was a pot filled with spicy broth, and scattered around the campfire were plates of spices and ingredients. "It's been some time since I eat like this," Naomi said. "Fun, isn't it?" the Seer said. She was the one who suggested the idea. Naomi silently agreed as she watched as Leo and Petra fought over the meats. The two disliked most of the vegetables there, so they opted to mostly eat meat. Since there weren't that many meats, to begin with, the two started fighting over them. Clara and Lisa tried to convince them to eat some vegetables, but they refused. "Yea, although..." Naomi shifted her staring at the sky. While the group was lively, they were still missing two people. Fox, who was missing as usual, and Nova, who was still in a coma. The absence of the two just felt wrong to Naomi, like they weren't complete. Of course, seeing everyone's lively and cheerful faces no one would have never guessed what they went through. That day, when they just arrived in this brand new world, no one knew what to do. She couldn't blame them. They just lost everything they knew. It was thanks to Fox they recovered from their shock. His words and orders, while not that kind, were what they needed to make them shift their focus. From what they had lost to what they had to do. "Don't worry. I'm sure both of them will join us one day," Lisa said as she patted Naomi's shoulder. Speaking of the devil, a portal appeared not far from them, and Fox walked out of it.  "Fox!" Clara immediately dropped her bowl and rushed toward Fox. He hugged her briefly before lifting her onto his back and started walking to the rest of the group. "Finally you appear. I almost thought you forgot we are having dinner," the seer said as she offered him a bowl. Petra wanted to run over to the masked figure and punish him for not being around more, but Leo's attempt in stealing her meat forced her to stay put. Punishing Fox could be done later, but there wouldn't be a later on eating the meats. "Where have you been?!" Lisa asked as usual. Every time Fox appeared, she would ask the questions. She didn't have a high hope since Fox never answered her questions anyway. "A lot of places. Why?" Fox said casually as he was filling his bowl with the broth. "Care to tell us these places you visited?" "Now, don't rush. I want to taste the broth first." Fox filled with his bowl with the hot spicy broth. He grabbed some vegetables and when he saw Leo and Petra hoarding the meats, he decided to just eat what he got. Naomi remembered their first dinner. She thought he would see Fox's face, even if only the bottom half. But as it turned out, the mouth part of his mask could slide down. So he ate peacefully as the rest could only stare at him in disbelief. Fox sip a spoon of the broth before saying "This is quite good. But well, its Seer cooking so no wonder it tastes good." "Hey! I helped too!" Naomi claimed. "What? Pouring in the water? I doubt you could cook water without getting it overcooked." The insult made Naomi threw water ball at him, but using an empty bowl Fox caught it "Now, no using power when eating Naomi," the seer said. "B-But!" "Oh, anyway, I'm going to answer your question, Lisa. I have been trying to gain a sanctuary for the survivors to live in peace. I kinda worked together with a government to achieve that." "...." Fox didn't know what would follow the silence of his comrades. "EHHHH?!" they all said in unison before each of them started ranting. "What do you mean you are working together with humans?! We are supposed to kill them all!" "What?! How?!" "I-Is it safe?" "Is that why you are missing all this time?!" "My, you always come up with something to surprise us." Everyone bombarded Fox with words. Suddenly, Leo slammed his fist to the ground, creating a small crater on the ground. He was pissed at Fox. Humans took everything from him. His home, his parents, and the only place he called home. After all that, he was supposed to just let everything go and work together with them?! He would rather be dead than working with humans. "Our mission is to take care of the Hunters. We do not have any quarrel with the innocents," Fox said. He knew everyone would disagree with him, and thus why he kept everything secret until they were ready. "But why we must work with a human? This place is spacious enough for the survivors! Not many survived, to begin with, right?" "So we are just going to exile ourselves here? Is that what you want? Separating ourselves from humans would not end well in the long run. Either them or us would eventually want to wipe out the other in the end." Before Leo could protest again, Fox continued talking. "Besides, this world is just an emergency, and are limited to 20 people." "B-But! They massacred us! Are we just going to hold hands then sing f*****g kumbaya while running off to the sunset?!" "You know it's not that simple, Leo," Fox said, trying to calm down the stone wizard. But Leo was having none of it. "Tch, whatever." Leo threw his bowl down and left for his room. He couldn't stand hearing another word coming out of Fox's mouth. The seer was about to follow Leo but Fox stopped her. "Let him be, he needs to cool down.  "But Fox, he had a point. We had no reason to work together with the humans." Petra said. She felt like humans, in general, wasn't as innocent as Fox said. Even the weakest of them would do anything to survive, and Petra knew that fact very well. "Our numbers are too small to continue alone, unfortunately. And besides, some of the survivors had been saying that it wasn't human's fault, but organization X." "Organization X?" Naomi asked in confusion. She and Lisa remembered hearing it before, but never really knew who the organization truly were. "Its a group of people with power who thinks they are superior from humans and seek to e*****e them." "Then... why would they attack us?" "Well, because most of our kind are against them. To them, we are the only thing that stands between them and their dream. Of course, they couldn't get rid of us themselves. So they used humans to attack us. It's an elaborate plan of getting rid of us." His explanation took everyone by surprise. "Why didn't you tell Leo this earlier?" Lisa asked. "He would brush my words off in his current. It's better off to tell him the truth later." Before Lisa could ask for more information, Fox spoke up. "We will talk about this later, For now, we should enjoy these meats while they are still hot," Fox said as he grabbed both Petra's and Leo's meat with lighting speed. "Hey! Those are my meats!" Petra protested. "Don't worry. You are going to get more meats with the fund UN gives us when they make us an official organization." "EHHHHHH?!"
