Seraphina's POV
I sat cross-legged on my bed in my medium-sized bedroom. I'd opted for cream walls and dark furniture, a combination I loved. It gave this homey vibe that soothed me even on the brink of exhaustion. I held my phone to my right ear. Droplets of water rolled down the side of my face. Fresh from the shower, my brown, curly hair was still damp. I fiddled with the hem of my purple satin nightie as I called my best friend… who was also my cousin.
“Hello” her bubbly voice invaded my brain.
“Amelia!” I responded, a bit too loud.
“Girl! Calm the hell down. Don't be screaming into my ear like that” she screamed back.
“Oh sorry, I'm just excited to hear from you”
“Uhhh…you literally heard from me just yesterday” she giggled a bit. “What's up?”
“You won't believe what happened at work today!” I bounced a bit on my bed.
I'd been itching to tell someone the good news and she was the perfect candidate.
“Ooohhhh tea time”, the sound of her shuffling a bit came through.
“Well…you know that rumor I told you was spreading in the office that I didn't have a clue about?”
“Yeah, yeah…something about people getting fired”
“Exactly! I got the full gist today.”
“Nice! Spill it”
I proceeded to tell her everything Jerry had told me in detail. From the accountant posting the video, to it going viral, to people who'd f****d their coworkers losing their jobs.
“Man that's crazy!” Amelia was astonished.
“I know, right?! Everyone at work always looks so professional and straightforward. Who knew such was happening?”
“That CEO's PA got me laughing though”, Amelia stifled a laugh. “Shout out to her for taking those men with her!”
I doubled over laughing, and I could tell Amelia probably did the same.
“Alsoooo…” I continued when we'd both laughed to our hearts' content. “I have more good news”
“The first wasn't good news, but okay. Go on”
I rolled my eyes and swallowed my laugh.
“I got a promotion”
Amelia cheered loudly through the phone and I pulled it away from my ear a bit. Yup. We sure knew how to be loud around each other.
“Go girl! Two promotions in one year?!! That's crazyyyy!”
“I know right?! I'm so happy right now”, I flopped down on my back with a wide grin on my face. I swung my feet in the air like an excited teenager.
“So what are you now? A director?”
“Even better! I'm the CEO's personal assistant. I couldn't mask the pride in my voice.
There was silence on the phone for a few seconds. I pulled the phone away from my ear. I knew what was coming.
“WHAT?!! For real?!!” Amelia squealed.
“You better not be messing with me right now, if not I swear-”
“I'm serious Amy. I'm still in shock too.”
“How'd it happen?”
“I don't know…I was in the office with my other coworkers, doing my thing when I received a message from a higher up that I was needed in the CEO's office”
“Whooaa…I bet you freaked out”
“I totally did. I was a ball of wrecked nerves and anxiety. Judging from how people were being dropped at the moment I thought I was going to lose my job!”
“You didn't f**k any of your coworkers though…”
“Well…yeah, but I was still nervous as heck! I went up to his office and saw him.”
“Gorgeous isn't he?”
I could practically hear the smirk on Amelia's round face.
“Absolutely. He is the description of a Greek god.”
“Ouuuu! Am I expecting some steamy office romance from now on?”
Amelia would've winked at me at this point if she was here. Or nudged me with her elbow.
“Hell no!” I laughed. “Don't plan on losing my job anytime soon.”
“Oh man. That's disappointing”, she sighed.
“Would've loved to hear stories about your make-out session with your CEO in his luxurious office”
We giggled a bit.
“That's not going to happen”
“Who knows, he might make the first move…keep an open mind”
“As if” I snorted.
“You know what this calls for?”
“Girls' trip!” I fist pumped the air
“Exactlyyyy! Or a girls' night out. We don't have time for a trip” she laughed lightly.
“True”
“When are you starting your new job?”
“Tomorrow”
“Oh. You should get some sleep then”
“I honestly should”
“I know you're excited about everything but you better not stay awake thinking if you don't want to go late to work on your first day and lose your job before you even start and rid me of the opportunity of seeing you have babies with your amazing CEO boyfriend”
“Amelia!” I squealed and burst out laughing. “You sure got to the ending fast”
She laughed too.
“Honestly though, I'd be so glad if there's a bit of romance involved. I mean spice up your life a bit…you know”
“Oh please, the only thing we'll probably be celebrating is a bigger paycheck, not an anniversary”
“Well I hope not. Get some rest dear”
“I'll call you tomorrow” I yawned. Hadn't even realized I was sleepy.
“You better”
“Good night Amy”
“Sweet dreams Sera”
The call ended.
******
I was expected to be at the office by 8am, but I was there by 7am sharp. I was determined NOT to mess anything up.
Anything at all.
Dressed in a white silk shirt that I took a whole hour to iron and perfect, navy blue pants and nude heels, I felt every bit the CEO's posh assistant. I'd somehow managed to put my unruly hair in a low bun, with the help of some hair gel of course, and my makeup was light and simple, just how I loved it.
I could only hope that the day that's started perfectly, goes perfectly.
My office was next to the CEO's, with a wall separating us, and a door that allowed us direct contact with each other.
I nodded in silent appreciation of the beauty of the office. If perfection was to be defined, this had to be it.
A beautiful white desk sat on the left side of the office. A silver computer and keyboard on it.
I noticed 2 empty photo frames on the desk and a black tablet.
A few potted plants were at the corners, and a small one was on the desk.
There was a black sofa next to a tall floating glass bookshelf.
I loved how the aesthetic of the room mixed business with comfort. The desk gave off strict office vibes, but the sofa added a welcoming touch of softness to the office.
The monochromatic walls were a bit…well… monochromatic.
But, that didn't make me admire the space any less.
There were smart blinds on the window.
The room was a bit spacious, but just about half the size of the CEO's office.
I dusted the furniture, even if it was already spotless and settled down onto my chair.
I immediately sank in.
“Whoa”
That had to be the most comfortable chair in the whole firm. For such an office-looking chair it sure was cozy. I leaned back and rotated a bit. It was a black swivel chair so I turned it around slowly.
“Cozy isn't it?”
My eyes shot open and I leaped off the chair like it was scalding hot at the sound of the rich masculine voice.
“S-sir” I stuttered as I spun to face him.
He stood at the door with his left hand in his pocket.
I'd never seen him clearly up close, but there he stood, few meters away from me.
My jaw nearly dropped. A rush of heat flooded my body.
“Good morning…sorry I didn't hear you come in” I rushed over my words like they were burning my tongue.
“Yeah, you seemed to be having the time of your life” he sounded stern but he had this amused glint in his eyes.
“Settle in then meet me in my office” he turned away from me “don't keep me waiting”.
