Jake stomped into the room and came to stand behind me. Like he meant to protect me from what Rudy was saying. I felt the light touch of his hand on my waist as my new dad glared at him.
With a deep sigh, Rudy refocused on me. He resumed speaking as if Jake was not there,
“You wanted a break from town, remember? Why not come away to the Golden Crescent. I'm not asking you to move permanently. Just for a little while. Let the she-wolf emerge in the land of her fathers. You can take a few days to tour the city after that. I'll show you around, show you your... root. The place is second home, if you want, of course. Now, I don't know what marital problems you're having...”
