Mestre Escuro gave Lady Escuridade a meaningful look before walking down the winding path. At a clearing below the Corrompido soldiers are gathered, waiting instructions, bathed in the warm flow of a low, golden sun. the large formation of Corrompido soldiers stand in tight ranks, their back to the coast. They wear heavy, blackened armour– matte and battle worn– with rounded helmets, shields at their sides and weapons sheathed or held at rest. Their posture is rigid and discipline, reflecting their readiness and anticipation for battle. Mestre Escuro stands slightly elevated on a rocky outcrop, his stance is firm and commanding, facing the army directly.
The environment around them is rugged with craggy hills and scattered ruins– broken stone walls and remnants of old structures– dotting the landscape. Tall pine tree line the slopes, framing the valley an adding depth. The sky itself is a striking contrast– soft oranges and golds from the rising sun spill across the clouds, casting long shadows. Banners planted among the Corrompido soldiers flutter gently, dark fabric marked with red insignias, reinforcing a sense of unity and purpose. Mestre Escuro stepped forward slightly, letting the silence stretch just long enough to hold every Corrompido soldier’s attention, then he spoke in a voice that carried across the valley.
“Look before you–the ground beneath your feet. This land has known fear… it has known suffering. But today, it will remember something else. You stand here not as scattered man, not as wanderers or survivors– but as one force. One will. One purpose. For the last ten years the Santo Order has tried to break us. They believed that their light made them stronger than our darkness. But they forgot– darkness is where we were forged. You have marched through hardship. You have endured what others could not. And now, you stand at the edge of something greater that yourselves. Behind you is everything worth fighting for. Ahead of you is everything that would take it away. So, when the moment comes– when steel meets steel and the world seem to tremble– do not falter. Stand. Stike. And let them remember... that we do not kneel.” After a brief pause he said, “Forward.”
…
By the docks of Cidade dos escravos, a tall, strong woman stands confidently, looking out at the ocean. Estrela Astuta, leader of the Santo’s Order, stands upright with a commanding presence, her posture straight and grounding as she watches dock workers loading up ships. Her expression is calm but intense, with slightly narrowed light blye eyes that seem focused and alert, as if she is constantly assessing her surroundings. There is a quiet determination in her face, paited with a subtle seriousness that hints at experiencce and discipline. Her hair is long and voluminous, primarily a rich brown with soft blond highlights woven throughout. It falls naturally over her shoulders in loose waves, adding movement and softness that contrasts with her otherwise battle-ready appearance.
A white hood frames her face, part of her outfit, edged with intricate gold embroidery that catches the light. She wears a rogue-style outfit in white and gold, designed to balance elegance with practicality. The fitted bodice is structured and supportive, with gold detailing tracing along seams and edges in ornate, almost regal patterns. Leather straps cross over her chest and torso, securing pieces of armour and gear. Around her waist is a thick leather belt system, layered with pouches and fastenings. Tucked securely into it are multiple daggers, their hilts visible and carefully arranged for quick access. The daggers are finely crafted, with dark grips and metallic accents that reflect faint light, reinforcing her role as a skilled, close-combat fighter.
Her arms are partially armoured: she wears leather bracers and gauntlets with gold engravings that match the rest of her attire. These pieces look both protective and decorative, suggesting high-quality craftsmanship. Her outfit continues downward with fitted white garments reinforced by leather straps around her thigh. The harbour around her is busy but subdued. The wooden docks ahead of her extend into the water, limned with small boats and a few larger vessels with masts and rigging. The water is calm, reflecting the dim sky and the silhouettes of the ships. On her right side, a set of worn stone steps leads down to the docks, where clusters of people are gathered– some standing and talking, others moving goods. Barrels, crates ad coiled ropes are scattered around adding to the sense of working port.
Estrela Astuta gaze roams to the a prominent stone statue in the middle of the sea just ahead of her. It depicts a figure holding a raised sword, facing outward toward the harbour as if gaurding the city. The statue is weathered, darkened by age and moisture. Behind her, the lower levels of Cidade dos escravos are packed with tightly clustered stone buildings– multi-story structures with steep roofs, small windows and signs of wear. Many of the walls are tinged with green, as moss and dampness cling to the stone, giving the entire city a slightly decayed, ancient feel. Thin trails of smoke drift upward from chimneys and blue banners hang from buildings and walls throughout the city, their colour standing out against the otherwise grey and green palette.
Higher up and further into Cidade dos escravos, the architecture becomes more imposing with massive stone walls and fortified structures rising above the lower city, leading to a grand central complex. Dominating the skyline is a towering cathedral-like structure with tall spires and pointed arches, flanked by other large towers. The design is gothic and monumental, with vertical lines that draw the eye upward, emphasizing height and power. Behind and around these structures, steep mountains loom, partially shrouded in mist. The rock faces are rugged and dark.
Tiro Recto and Bonito Sorriso come down one of the corridors and approach Estrela Astuta. “The Corrompido army is one their way,” Tiro said coldly. “As expected,” Estrela Astuta said calmly. “The skip is almost ready, prepare to board.” Tiro and Bonito looked at each other questioningly before Bonito asked, “We are leaving?” She just nodded. “What!” Tiro said a bit too loud. “We are fleeing like scared rats? We should be killing every single Corrompido that comes close to the city.” Estrela Astuta raised her hand. “Enough,” she said harshly. “Follow orders.”
