Ara's POV
Since Ara got the red-ball mission, her name has become well-known in the company. All of a sudden, employers from every department will come by her office from time to time. Most of them gather in the corridor, peeking through the window to see who the poor girl is. Others may follow Ara to the elevator or the lady's room and start a chat with her whenever they get a chance.
This frustrates Lisa. She swears that she will keep an eye for them and write a complaint to the HR department to help Ara get rid of those shameless stalkers.
Ara is also uneasy about being followed by a group of people, but she doesn't find the complaint necessary. She says to her manager, "Thank you, but it is fine. They are not as bad as you think. They just show their concerns to my current condition."
"Stupid innocent girl." Lisa shakes her head in disagreement, "They give a s**t about your situation. They just want to get the latest news from you so they can have a topic to laugh at over meals."
"Your version sounds truer." Ara murmurs and sighs, "But I don't think the complaint will be helpful since some of my newly-made acquaintances come from the HR department."
"Bastards!" Lisa exclaims. She tightens her hands into balls and declares through her gritted teeth, "I swear I will kick those mosquitoes out one day. They are like rumor-building machines. So noisy! So f*****g annoying." Lisa rubs her forehead, "I am sorry, Ara. I feel so sorry that I can't protect you well. You shouldn't be treated like this."
"Shhhh, don't blame yourself, Lisa. This is not your fault. Guess this is the nature of the trial. There will always be something unpreventable. Don't you have any faith in me? I can handle this."
"I do have faith in you, honey. More than you can imagine." Lisa smiles bitterly, "But your client is Nick and I am afraid……"
"No worries. Nick is nicer than he appears to be." Ara assures Lisa.
"Are you sure?" Lisa is taken aback by such a defense.
"Well, so far he has been cooperative." Ara grimaces, "I can't foretell the future, can I?"
Lisa nods in agreement. She lowers her voice and whispers to Ara, "If Nick causes trouble or disturbs your plan on purpose, do let me know. I'll try my best to apply for a reassignment. You deserve a better client……"
A knock on the door startles Lisa, making her swallow the unfinished claim. Both Lisa and Ara glance at the door and exchange a look when they find the visitor is Nick.
"Do I disturb you?" Nick drawls, with his upper body leaning against the door. He gives Lisa a simple nod.
"He doesn't look cooperative to me." Lisa snorts.
Ara elbows Lisa slightly and turns to Nick, "Good day. Anything I can do for you?"
Nick looks at her and says, "You told me you'd be available all day. So here I am."
Lisa lowers her head and glances at the watch. After checking the time, she raises her chin and argues, "But it's lunchtime."
"Exactly." Nick casually shrugs, "Your subordinate agreed to join me for lunch."
"What?" Lisa's eyes widen in surprise.
"Er, yes I agreed. I thought this would be good for our……" Ara pauses, trying to find a proper phrase to define her relationship with Nick. She searches desperately and eventually manages to find one, "client-counselor relationship. Isn't this what you told me to do? As a counselor, we should establish and maintain a good relationship with clients."
"Yes, that's what I said. But I didn't mean……" Lisa fails to come up with more words. She nods reluctantly and waves her hand in a surrendering gesture, "Alright, go with him. And take good care of yourself, little red riding hood, keep a distance from Mr. Woolf and don't let him eat you alive."
"Thank you mom, I'll keep that in mind." Ara winks at Lisa and rushes to the door, "Come on, let's go for lunch. I am starving."
"You look genuinely happy." Nick steals a glance at her and quickly turns his head to the other side when Ara looks at him.
"Because I am happy." Ara smiles, "Lisa is the best manager on this planet. I adore her so much."
"Really? Why do you say so?"
"Lisa teaches me a lot. And she is patient and friendly. She cares about me and offers useful insights to guide me through difficult times……"
Nick interrupts her with a snort, "Like what? Through encouraging you to get yourself another client? I have to say Lisa made a point. In terms of obedience, most clients are better than me. They may let you pass the trial more easily."
Ara realizes that Nick has overheard what they say, and he must have been annoyed by Lisa's suggestion. That's why he would convey his opinion in such a sarcastic way. After all, who would like to be seen as an item that can be discarded anytime?
"My favorite happens to be rebellious soul. To help them reach their goal can bring me a huger sense of achievement ." Ara says softly, "Therefore, according to my standard, you're a perfect client despite the difficulties you may cause. Besides, a trial is a trial. If it is the destiny that pairs us together, I will keep you till the end of this mission. We've vowed in front of the Moon, remember? You should have more faith in your partner."
Nick's face blushes fiercely when he hears Ara calls him her perfect client and the shade of red even deepens when he hears her out. He looks at her eyes, feeling a sudden desire swelling in his stomach. He is eager to eat her alive, just like what Lisa suggested minutes ago.
First, he is a werewolf. Second, his family name is Woolf. Third, she is wearing a red dress today.
So why shouldn't he behave like a wolf? Just like the fairy tale, he has gained her trust. The next move is to lure her into the bedroom, asking her to come closer and closer……
Nick is in his daze until his daydream is awaken by a voice, "Why are you staring at me like that?"
He comes back to the earth, gazing at Ara and fastly swallows back the dryness in his throat, "I didn't stare at you. I just… spaced."
Ara asks curiously, "What is on your mind?"
You.
Nick holds back the urge to blurt out the answer when he gives it a second thought.
This is a horrible reply. It will scare Ara away. Thousands of thoughts bubble above his head like in comic books. For a second, he is afraid Ara can see what he is thinking. He would rather be on the first plane to hell. After taking a deep breath, Nick finally recollects himself and trails off, "Nothing important. Let's grab some lunch first. Aren't you starving?"
"Right." Ara gives him a suspicious look but doesn't ask more. She enters the elevator first, presses the button, and asks Nick, "What would you like for lunch?"
"No preference. I am not picky about food."
"How about a cheese beef burger?" Ara wets her lower lip and suggests, "I know a place nearby. The meat is so juicy that people will be drooling over it once the smell hits their noses."
"Sounds good to me." Nick mutters, "I had thought you would bring me to a restaurant so we can sit and chat."
"We can ask a takeaway and sit on the grass to enjoy our meal. Trust me, the food tastes better when you are bathed in the sun." Ara smiles, "As long as you're not allergic to the sunlight."
"I am not a vampire." Nick snarls, which makes Ara giggle.
The elevator is sinking, during which Ara takes out a file and shovels it into Nick's hand, "Have a check. It is your personal analysis, produced by the Moon."
"Is it long? Shall I read it now or save it later?"
"It is concise but very informative. You may leaf it through first."
Nick follows the advice. He turns to the first page and scans the paper. He notices there are four letters depicting his personality type, namely I-N-T-J. He is attentive to those uncanny letters and asks, "What does this mean?"
